1. Blu Ray is still a fairly expensive format relative to DVD. Do you guys buy ALL of your movies on Blu Ray now? I have not bought a DVD since getting my Blu Ray player but all of the Blu Ray movies I have are ones that I feel benefit from being in High Def (like Pan's Labyrinth, Band of Brothers, The Dark Knight etc.). I think if it came down to it, I would rather buy a DVD version of things like low budget movies or comedies, in which the picture quality really isn't that important in the movie. Anyone else feel this way?
1 1/2. Do you buy movies on Blu Ray if you have never seen them before or do you only buy a movie after you have seen it? 2. I'm looking to buy one more Blu Ray. Looking for one with a good, compelling storyline. I really liked Babel Last Samurai Gran Turino Pan's Labyrinth I'm thinking The Departed maybe? Any other suggestions? |

I pretty much buy everything on blu ray, and just wait for places like Amazon to have a 3 for 2 before getting less important movies. For example just got The Matrix Trilogy for £12 and Apocolypto for £6, not my favourite movies, heck not even seen Apocolypto, but can't complain at those prices
![]() As for what you should get ... Blade Runner ![]() |

I wont replace any of my DVDs with Blu Ray movies. And especially with older films (have many from the 50s and 60s) I dont need HD at all. Movies like "To catch a thief" for example really need that worn down look in order to make fun. (My opinion)
Otherwise I have bought Cars and Wall-E on BluRay, I didnt buy the DVDs on purpose because I knew they would really profit from the high definition. I think the Bourne trilogy will be my next BluRay buy, just need to find a good price. (the trilogy Blu Ray box set is more exensive than the single disc editions, WTF!?) |

I don't think i've bought a single DVD since getting my PS3 in summer '07, except for a box set that was going cheap. Any new films that i want to see will automatically be bought on Blu-ray. For older catalogue releases, i tend to check the reviews on Highdefdigest.com to make sure they are a decent transfer.
I'm not sure why some of you want to buy older movies on DVD for the 'worn down' look, that just doesn't make sense. I'm sure the directors weren't sitting there in the 1950s filming in 70mm and hoping that one day people will watch their films exclusively with giant compression blocks everywhere and no detail. Blu-ray is the closest to the directors vision and some of the older films from the 30s-80s can look absolutely stunning! |

If the DVD is significantly cheaper and the movie is a comedy or has no special effects I'll still buy it on DVD. But if it is a concert, or movie that has special effects I try to buy it on BluRay.
Got my new Klipsch Reference speaker package last night and popped in the Star Trek BluRay movie and fast forwarded to the final battle scene. Siiiiiiick... And typically I'll only buy a movie on DVD or BR disc if I've already seen it and liked it a lot. BR discs are still too expensive in my book if you're only going to watch it once, and it's still a waste of money IMHO to buy it on DVD if I'll never watch it again. We rent movies for $1 per day out of automated machines called Redbox. It's a dirt cheap way to see movies, and recently released titles are almost always available (you reserve them online at a local machine, then go pick them up). Then, if it's something I liked a lot, I'll buy it. My next rental will be District 9. If I like it, I might buy it on BR disc. If not, it was only a $1 rental LOL. |

Dark Knight = a must have! Very nice filmed and special effects.
Public Enemy Number One. = French film, two BluRay discs ( seperate films , part 1 and part 2) Awesome film, must have! Algerian man comes to live in France 60-70's and becomes the most wanted man in France at that time. You HAVE to see it. [thumbup] |

Fav two movies I have on Bluray are probably The Departed and Gangs of New York. Others good ones, that have been mentioned are. Snatch and Blade Runner. I have and can still watch over and over again. The Hurt Locker is awesome, but I'm not sure how many times I could watch it? But it is definitely a must see! |

With the very good prices on movies on Amazon, I have been rebuilding my library on Blu-ray. I can't remember the last time I paid more that $20 for a 2-3 disc special edition of a new release on Amazon and most movies I have bought through them were $7-15. Here are the movies I own on BD. Even low budget comedies can benefit for a good BD transfer.
it is... think about it you dont necessarily have every thing in HD the format is good for storage too so you could get more episodes on one disc |
