whats the Flash like on it?
is native iplayer a realistic possibility?
Well the flash is dual led but that doesn't make it any better than some of the other
N series phones. As for the native Iplayer i can only hope so. There's some very exciting things going on with the maemo scene at the moment so only time will tell.

That wasn't an essay Chris, it was a good read. Sounds like the Tattoo is the perfect phone for you with Facebook. It was my HTC Hero that got me into Twitter (I thought, what the hell, lets see what this is all about) and I think it's good for feeding info and news to your phone.

Have you owned any other smartphones before?

As it happens no - unless you count my iPod Touch 1st gen in that category.

Main bonus of the Tattoo for me is that its small enough to go in my suit pocket, and will allow me to pick up my emails on the move when visiting my clients for work. Provided my company does not bitch about data usage. They should not though - especially considering that I bought the bloody phone myself!

I have the HTC Touch pro 2 and i use it mainly for mail contacts calendar and as a phone since im out on the road most of every day. and i really get on well with the Winmo platform, ive had three HTC phones now, and they have all been great for what i need!

so personally i dont understand why everyone hates the Platform??
Its because although "Iphones" are good the owners tend to have a nose up attitude to Winmo devices... thats why I always jump on Mac product users they are too easily wound up.

I dunno about you mate, but what with the sense 2 software on the new gen HTC's you'd be hard pressed to say winmo is shite because apart from the "add remove software" Tab you dont even go into the winmo 6.5 side of it every thing is catered for by the very well engineered and capable HTC software.

android is the up and coming mobile os now,and no doubt its better than the mac and ms flavors but it wasn't so long ago everybody hated Google......and even Apple... like they hated MS...

I had a play with an Iphone side by side with my HD2 and I actually preferred WINMO....

its all swings and roundabouts... but Id rather be the Winmo lepper any day of the week..

next up for me is the winmo7 upgrade and if HTC do it then to Android, but seeing as the HTC HD2 is exactly the same phone im sure there will be some cooked roms kicking about if HTC decide not to i'll just coldcard it on there.

I certainly don't. WinMo devices can be very useful things. I only need my iPhone to be a phone and an email/entertainment device though and it does all of those things better than any WinMo device.

I don't care if WinMo has a scientific calculator and full spreadsheet editing capabilities because I will never use them on my phone. I know this because I have wasted money on apps that do these things and deleted them within a few days.

I just know that when I update my Facebook status, I'd rather it say "via Facebook for Blackberry" or "Facebook for iPhone" rather than "Facebook for Android". These things matter to me.

Huh?

Chris -
Does the Tattoo integrate Facebook with your contacts so all of your Facebook friends who you have in your contacts show up with contact pictures, email, extra phone numbers, status updates, and address, etc?

It is one of the small things I thought was really cool about my Droid.

No one in this thread is spouting about the iphone..
I have used winmo on quite a few devices and I can fully understand why people hate it so much (fair enough there are a lot of poeple that just hate it for the sake of it). Applications aren't very nice, crappy user interface, poor battery life, not the most stable OS. Problem is that for many of the devices I use it for, like stocktake scanners and the like it's alright but if it crashes then you have to do it all over again but unfortunately there is no choice. That really pisses people off.

Like you said the HTC is a different kettle of fish as it has a different interface but at the end of the day it's still windows CE underneath.

P.S. I love my Blackberry 9700 [thumbup]

The camera is good for natural light shots, but as normal for a camera phone low light/night is poor

Just noticed today that my phone as what can best be described as a 1cm by 1cm "oil-spot" in the middle of the screen.

After some reading around it appears other people have the same issue, and its down to the layer of the touchscreen.... erm touching.

It seems to be a bit of a "feature" across the HTC range - and certain other smartphone too.

Was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem?

Thankfully the place I bought the phone from will swap it over for me - either for a direct replacement, or a different make & model if I wish. Just worried if I do a direct swap that I'll get another one that will have the same issue......

Ah well... - and so ends my experience with Android.

Just took the phone back for a full refund (they were not difficult) - the main reason I decided not to get a replacement is that I just found out from my IT dept this morning that their policy on emails has changed. They are no longer permit users to access emails via MS webmail exchange through mobiles. Apparently the only way we are allowed emails on the move now is if we have a company issued blackberry. Guess I'll start hassling my boss then.

Tis a shame, as I very much liked the Tattoo.

HTC HD2 is the best winmo phone in history because the user interface is so so much better than other winmo phones, and the phone is just a speed rocket, with massive 4.3"screen, it is like having internet tablet and IMO it is better than the iphone if you compare functionality and usage.

I have been winmo guy for like 5 years now, but I hate it slowdowns, even on HTC touch pro or touch pro2, HD2 is the only phone that changed this.

I really want to get the HD2, also it will have free win7mo upgrade, unfortunately it is only coming to T-Mobile USA, and their 3G service sucks.

So I don't have a choice but to try Nexus one on Verizon next spring, at least for a change to new O/S from my aging touch pro, the Nexus one is super fast, faster than the iphone and probably the HD2, the user interface isn't the best but the O/S has great potential.

iphone user experience is the best, I don't think anyone will say otherwise and if they do they are lying to themselves, but when I use the iphone I just feel that it doesn't really have a character, it is just an app launcher on a desktop and that's it (even when it is jailbroken), I like my phones to be more complex and customizable to the core, I also like to be different than everybody else, I just feel that I don't have a character using an iphone...I don't like to be compared to 16 years old girls who use it...I just feel dump, it is just like buying sidekick..lol

Just my 2 cents.

the nexus is the HD2 in a different chassis. I suppose the OS will make all the difference tho

Almost identical except the amount of ram, 512MB on the Nexus one vs 448MB on HD2 and of course the screen difference.

I care that it says "via something or other" just so it's obvious that I didn't mean to type he'll instead of hell. [thumbup]

Not entirely. But we have to remember Facebook is a world of being cool. So posting something "via Facebook for Android" is really shooting yourself in the foot.
