Default you too can own a Shuttle for 28.8M$
I know what, if I had that kind of money to burn, I would buy a Shuttle. Its one of the coolest things mankind has ever built, and I'd love to give one to the local Tech Museum so everyone around here could have a closer look!

Surely, as the shuttles were built from government funds (gained from the taxpayer) NASA should be giving these spacecraft to museums rather than trying to make £30,000,000 on each one? Or is that too radical a way of thinking?

So, you don't think the Governmental organisations should get some money back for old equipment, thereby lowering demand on your taxes for running the organisation?

Personally, I'd prefer a 'Firefly'!

This is a special case....these machines have been in service nearly 30 years. It's not like they are selling a 2 year old 4x4. They have definitely had their money's worth.

Fair enough to charge a private individual but museums shouldn't have to buy back what they technically already paid for in the first place (by 'they' I mean the American taxpayer.

One is going to the Smithsonian, so that leaves two left - the money is a token amount for what is being offered, though. It's essentially a 'guarantee' of the level of next owner.

Better still is that you can have a main engine for nothing: all you pay is the P&P.
