Default Egypt's great pyramids 'not built by slaves'
its the BBC: video link

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8453026.stm?ls

Tombs discovered near Egypt's great pyramids reinforce the theory they were built by free workers rather than slaves.

The location of the tombs, where workers who built the pyramids of Khufu (Cheops) and Khafre (Chephren) are buried, suggests they were not slaves.

The tombs, made from bricks of dried mud, date back 4,500 years.
They are the first to be discovered since the first such workers' tombs were found in 1990.
"These tombs were built beside the king's pyramid, which indicates these people were not by any means slaves," Zahi Hawass, the chief archaeologist heading the Egyptian excavation team, said in a statement.

"If they were slaves, they would not have been able to build their tombs beside their king's." Evidence from the site indicated the approximately 10,000 workers who built the pyramids had eaten 21 cattle and 23 sheep sent to them daily from farms in the Delta and Upper Egypt, said Dr Hawass. This would suggest the farmers who sent the animals were not............................. Continue Reading

I found it a lot more interesting before i watched the video and read the article

I thought it was pretty commonly accepted these days that the pyramids weren't built by slaves?

Maybe I have just been watching too much StarGate, but I am not convinced. We can't even build modern sky scrappers without Slave labour.

Slaves would never do such a good job, forced labor no matter how much you do will never be as good as someone who is pouring their heart out into their work and a slave will never do that.

PS i was there when the pyramids went up and i can tell you it wasnt done by "free workers".Truth is , i built them, a promise sexual encounter with Isis was my prize and immortality was my reward.Do you guys enjoy my work ? Isis sure did, oh boooooy did she ever..mm mmm mmmmmm !Ever make a goddess climax in mid summer?

"Slaves Whipped to Death
In the Hot Sun
Drag the Stones of Sorrow

Vast Monolithic a Collossus of Stone
Greased with the Blood of Abraham

Of Human Bondage
and Suffering
We carve a monument to Megalomania

Bleak and Endless is my Sorrow
For the chain of Sut
Is around my Neck

Aperu Heseb Semedet!
It is I who lift up the arm of the Inert
I have gone out of Khemenu
and am no longer a living soul
I have been initiated into the hearts of the Baboons
And I claim Dominion over the legions
of Uninscribed Shabitiu
Khunumu Khufu!
The God Khnum is my Protector

Ushabti

Despite my experience throughout history i am still "currently banned from the shoutbox" wtf?

I too doubt they could have managed that without slave labor. Even assuming it was a mixture of slave and non-slave, anyone who wasn't a slave probably didn't have a choice in the matter, and wasn't paid a fair wage. Throughout history slave labor has been pretty common, and commoners weren't often fairly compensated. It wasn't all that long ago we had peasant labor. They weren't "slaves", but they were damned close to it.

I happen to know for a fact that the great pyramids were hand crafted by gypsies.
I also am banned from the shoutbox.

The Pharaohs were Godlike in those days,
Working for them was considered a honour and they were paid and treated well.
(heard that on a docu once)

From what I have read I don't believe that at the time of the pyramids the Egyptians even had money and they they paid their taxes with grain/food or by doing labour for the Pharaoh. Namely building monuments and cities.

Hmm, could be. It has actually been a long time since I read up much on their culture. Pretty much all ancient civilizations were pretty unfair in a lot of ways. You're either born nobility, or it sucks to be you. It's the cost of society.
