Default So-Cal Vacation...Where to go? What to do?
I am planning a vacation to Southern California from Jan 24th to Feb 6th. I'll be staying in the Burbank/Glendale area, just North of LA.

I've never been to CA before and i'll be staying with a buddy of mine who only recently moved out there. Is there anything else a tech-geek like myself must do while out there?

I also plan on doing a fair share of driving. Definitely going to take a short trip up the coast and check out Hollywood a bit. Being in the middle of winter, I may also head up to a ski resort, but having never been skiing or snowboarding...I don't know where to look.

Any tips for entertainment/travel are hugely welcome! [thumbup]

If I wanted to freeze my ass off in the middle of winter, I'd stay here in New England...

Winter is a great time to visit Joshua Tree national park. You'll miss out on seeing a lot of wildlife since winter time is when a lot of people go out there, but it's still worth a look. My favorite hikes are the 49 Palms Oasis trail, and the trail that loops around Lost Horse Mine.

Also, as someone pointed out, you're fairly close to Vegas. That's always worth a trip. It isn't all that expensive either, unless of course you bet your life savings at the blackjack table and lose.

Visit the Santa Monica Pier. If you go on a saturday afternoon before sundown, you can also see the freak show that is the drum circle on Venice Beach.
