Life is short. 8 minutes a day, 5 days a week, 48 weeks a year is 1 and 1/3 days of your life wasted every year. After 30 years of work, that 40 days of your life wasted because you chose to ride the bike instead of driving. Shooter is that you ? btw who knows, the fitness gain might just benefit his health that much that heŽll A. look better B. be fitter and C. who knows, maybe live 50 days longer,.. ![]() |

lol.
I probably will get pretty fit if I get a bike. I'm fit already working out 4-5 days a week so the up side is I won't feel like I'm dying immediately.[rofl] Well today I'm feeling a little better. The last two night's I've been pretty depressed, and my licence isn't even suspended yet. lol. I've worked out what I can do, what I think is workable. I've taken advice from the don't even touch your car camp, and those that have said unless you do something retarded on suspension then you're not going to get caught camp. Lets just say my intent is to avoid using the car, but I know for some occasions mostly for work I'm going to have to quickly use it, but it's all short distance. It's my choice and I'm wiling to take on the risks. In no way am I going to drive my car far or put myself in a situation where there could be a good chance of getting into bigger trouble. It's mostly to do with getting to that bus stop/supermarket car park that will stop me driving any further, keep me in clean clothes, help me get me to work on time, out of the rain and help me with groceries. Just to add some perspective this is the intended route...http://tiny.cc/yhoKP It's a pretty bad road, one you don't want to be walking on or riding a bike really, there are heavy trucks using it to build new housing estates, the road condition is bad and there is just no safe run off area. I know scoobs commented on how good Melbourne has a public transport system, but he probably still thinks I live in the city, or inner Melbourne suburbs area. Without a doubt I could 100% do without a car there. Infact for the last 2 years living in Melbourne I have barely touched my car. I've only started using it since I've been living out at Point Cook these last 2 months. Well that's all I have to say about this. Other than I better enjoy the rest of the month on the road before the suspension comes into effect Dec 31st. |

You're an idiot. ![]() I'm not trying to get virtual spoon fed to feel better. I wanted advice from those that have been in this situation. Granted laws are different all over the place. I know what you'd do Troy. You break the law left right and centre no matter what. :P |

I once had my license suspended due to my TransAm failing emissions because I never tested it. (It was in storage for 5 years, and I submitted the paperwork for show/car exhibition car insurance which exempts the car from emissions testing.
Long story short, they never processed the paperwork. I had filled out the paperwork, had my insurance agent sign off on it, dropped it off at the EPA testing station. The EPA agent signed off on the paper work sent the originals in, and gave me copies with all the valid signatures. 3 years later I got pulled over for a minor speeding violation in my daily driver a 99 Kia Sephia, I was doing 75mph in a 65mph zone as we pulled into the Davenport IA area going back home to Chicago, IL. Thinking nothing of it, it was only 10 over on a 3 lane highway with no civilization in sight I was a little shocked when the officer told me my license was suspended, and had been for 2 years! For 3 years I was driving on an invalid license. Thankfully I had a friend with me on the road trip, he drove home. The officer let me keep my license since it was an out of state offense, gave me a ticket for 75 in a 65, and a ticket for driving on a suspended license. I paid the 75 in a 65 ticket, but fought the suspension ticket. I'm grateful now that I documented all the paper work. I fought the state of IL, and the EPA for nearly 6 months to get my license re-instated. Despite me having followed ALL of their requirements. I spoke with my insurance agent and we went back to when the paperwork was submitted and got all of the insurance bills showing it was paid up, and insured as a showcar vehicle. Most of the time spent was waiting for the horrible state agencies to actually acknowledge that my license had been suspended without cause. During the 6 months my license was suspended I continued to drive. I had no way to get to work during that timeframe. So I had to drive. After 6 months I got the suspension finally expunged from my record as if it never existed. However, I was still fighting the Iowa ticket for driving on a suspended license. They wanted a proof that it shouldn't have been suspended from the state. Finally the prosecutor was forced to drop the case as IL was not responding to ANY inquiries from Iowa. They ruled in my favor since i had all of my other insurance paperwork. The state of IL failed to make the case. So 3.5yrs without a license. Even though I dotted all my i's and crossed all my t's the state still screwed me over. I hate IL. Hate the DMV, SOS, and EPA with a passion because they are just that slow an inept at everything. Now when I submit the paperwork for my insurance to exempt me from testing I follow up 1 month later. The very first time I had to check they did not even have the paperwork yet again. I called up the EPA and had some strong words, mentioned the names of everyone at the EPA testing center who signed off on my paperwork and faxed them the signed copies of my paperwork. That took nearly a month to sort out, though thankfully my license was never in being suspended becuase I still had several months before i was required to test. A recent law has removed all testing equipment for cars built before 1996. So now my car is just exempt period. I was never so happy as when that law passed. |

2 minute drive? Walk, you lazy sod! The perk of all this is I've been kind of scared to head out drinking as I've been driving. So at least I'll be able to head out more now without the worry of driving my car from the train station. There is no way on earth you can leave your car at the station overnight without it being smashed into. I don't mind leaving the car at the supermarket or planning ahead and walking to the stop. |

Had it taken away from me for two months. I did 160km/h in an 80km/h part of the autobahn with a construction site.
I didnt really care though, I kept on driving as usual, with the only difference that I obayed all traffic rules for those two months, to minimize the chance of getting stopped by cops. ...I had to pay 500DM though which kinda hurt. |

I lose my license for 3 months doing 34km over the limit.
Was racing against a friend at the time and was easily doing over 140 in a 70 zone when the radar gun got us, but when the cop pulled me over he saw that we weren't really meat-heads and had no previous driving records and were driving fairly modest cars, so he went back to his car to talk to the other officer and then re-approached me and said: "This is how it is.... I am pretty sure my radar gun said 114km/h mate". Which is 1km under the 35 and over tier. Anything above that and it would've given me the same type of penatly as Lenny got. Was damn lucky and only got a 3 months suspension, and a relatively small fine. Never did it again. And and a word of advice Lenny. DO NOT DRIVE WHEN YOU ARE SUSPENDED. Everyone always thinks "why not", but think about this: No matter what you are being pulled over for (RBT, traffic check, etc) they check your license, and if you are not meant to be driving you will get your ass handed to you. If you can't go six months without seeing a cop for an RBT, or something innocent like that, then you can't go six months without getting caught... period. Out of all the people I know who have driven despite being suspended, not one of them has managed to avoid getting caught at some stage. If you do, say goodbye not only to your current job, but pretty much most potential jobs too. In fact the only think I recommend you do is learn your lesson, and enjoy riding the bus. |

Well my intention isn't to drive where I suspect there is a good chance of getting caught. It's just so I can get to the damn bus stop. That is all, which is that little 1.6km bit. Now sometimes I'll have the time to walk that, and other times I wont. I defiantly wont take the car cruising. If they were going to setup an RBT it would be way further down the road where people get off the highway and cross the bridge to get to the train station. I know the best solution is to never drive, but I can see that life will feel a lot easier if I can get to that bus stop in speedy fashion, dry and clean.
I need a month long holiday somewhere where I don't need a car. lol. |
