Has anyone ever thought of adding say a light beam or something to indicate if the railway is blocked so that an oncoming train has time to stop?
That woman was lucky, extremely so, I did not think the train would be able to stop in time. Were I the conductor of that train and I did everything possible to stop the train i still do not think I could watch it. I'd have to turn away, or close my eyes. |

Has anyone ever thought of adding say a light beam or something to indicate if the railway is blocked so that an oncoming train has time to stop? Where would the light beam go? Perpendicular to the tracks? How far apart do you make them? Parallel to the tracks? What if some jerk throws garbage down there? |

Did you consider this before suggesting it? I can think of a few different ways to plan it. Perfect solution? No, there are problems with each methods I thought of. There are even problems with using object detection like the camera system they have in place. I'm not saying its THE solution. Just a possible solution with some work. Whats with the expletive? You know its going to get blocked by the filters. |

Perpendicular wouldn't work, it wouldn't cover enough area. A cross beam at an angle could increase coverage. The people making the decision almost never state it so bluntly, but the principal is in affect all around us. |

Why not just use the existing frontal camera, which clearly has body recognition? Notice the red rectangles following that man (a true hero, risking his own life) and woman?
The frontal camera clearly recognized someone on the tracks (red squares). That should have turned on the red light to the incoming train. |

Was that lady like drunk or high or something? She seemed seriously out of it....
They really should put some kind of railing or plexiglass system along those subways. We don't have a subway here in my city but I'm pretty damn sure if we did we would have some kind of railing system along the edge to prevent stupid people from falling. Yes we have alot of stupid people here so it would be built with them in mind. ![]() |

It would probably be difficult to implement a system like that and not have it keep being triggered erroneously.
