I just read that article, the forum is already full of haters baning on about Opera ('cos that was a GREAT browser, right?)[rolleyes]

Anyway, good times with Firefox... I started using it when it was 0.4 on PC and still use it now on PC and Mac,

In fact I didn't use Phoenix nor Firebird much as I changed from Mozilla Suite to Firefox/Thunderbird only after the support and updates of the Suite waned.

I only started using Firefox in late 2005 when I was sick of IE6 crashing on random web pages, Firefox was rock solid and I use it as my primary browser to this day.

Happy Birthday indeed!

"Was"? Opera is still around. I used to use it, but switched to FF when I started having problems. Apart from that what's wrong with it?

I said "was" because the comments on Ars are talking about how Opera was first with this and that, even though (in my opinion) they were badly implemented, but anyway many moons ago. I used Opera a lot in the early 00's before Phoenix got my attention. It was dogshit.

Yes it's still around, and aside from very slow development, the question isn't so much about what's 'wrong' with it, the question is what's right with it. The way I see it...

I.E. - Your old smelly friend...
Firefox - Standards and customisation... plus GPL if that turns you on
Safari - Mac Attack... Apple fanboys love it, plus it's got Webkit, which is pretty neat
Chrome - New kid, lots of speed and no bloat (yet)
Opera - Why bother?

[rofl]

I have been using it for years now. Someone on this site recommend it and I tried it and loved it. I haven't even felt the need to try other browsers.

Only five years? I'm positive I was using it in late 2003.
