Default Amazon.com Preorders?
Do they normally not bother shipping until release date?

I know with many products, at many places, pre-orders ship a day early or so to arrive at your home on release date. Amazon just sent me a notice that they shipped it out today, and it'll be here on the 31st. That's great... I could have gotten it quicker from freaking Walmart, for the same price too.

I have never gotten my stuff earlier from Amazon. They ship it on release date.

And I see nothing wrong with it. But here Amazon is usually cheaper than the local retailers.

I have Amazon Prime which is free two-day shipping and they guarantee the item to be at my home on launch date, otherwise you have to pay extra.

How is it "free" if you have to pay for it?

BTW over here Amazon Prime gives one day shipping.

UK: 130k km^3
US: 9372k km^3

Not 2X larger...

P.S. Somehow the UK postal system is legendary over here. Is it really that good?

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but from what I hear some people have had problems, however I've never had any trouble. But they're on strike atm....well there were a few days ago; next one is due soon.

That's lame. Walmart was actually cheaper and the shipping would have had it here 2-3 days earlier. I've always preferred Amazon because they never done me wrong. Guess I just won't bother with pre-orders there anymore.

I won't pay $80/yr just so that my 1 or 2 pre-order items I order each year will arrive in a timely fashion. I guess prime would be good for people who order a LOT of stuff off Amazon and want it shipped quickly.

How do you mean legendary?

Efficient you mean? not sure about that, you've already noted how small a land mass UK is, and Royal Mail isn't without its problems, but they are quite acceptable in my eye. Then again the majority of my parcels are not delivered by them.

Because I didn't pay a cent for it.

Also, the US is just a bit larger but I typically get my items the next day since they ship from NV most of the time.

I really wasn't being sarcastic.

Royal Mail is highly regarded, so I was asking whether it deserves the praise...

To further my rant a little I got notification regarding my package. It shipped from Lexington, Kentucky. That's about a 4 hour drive away. How does a package take 4 days to travel a couple hundred miles?

When amazon.com says it shipped, they mean they created the shipment with USPS's API.

Your item might be boxed up, might not be, and it might not have even left the warehouse.

Little late, but when I pre-ordered Fallout3 from Amazon, they shipped it a few days early so that it would arrive "at my house" on release date.

they were true to their word and it was waiting for me by the time I got home from work on release day.

Somehow, you decided that both the US and the UK were only 1 foot deep.
