Default Anyone ever gone on a "single holiday"
I'd like to visit Egypt, but I'm not confident enough to go by myself (I've not been abroad since I went with my parents 20 years ago) and I've got no one to go with. I was thinking of going with a company called Just You that specialises in holidays for people travelling alone; you go as part as a group. I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences of this type of holiday, or even this particular company?

single holiday doesnt appeal to me, why pay to go all the way to a different country to be alone/with a bunch of randomers.

I can do that for free by walking outside right now.

True, but going it alone shouldn't hold you back if you really want to go somewhere. Life is short.

Because your primary reason for visiting the country would be to see the country itself rather than as just somewhere nice to hang out with friends/family.

I can definitely see the appeal of a single holiday, as you dont have to please anyone else, especially since this is probably more of a scenic holiday than anything, you want to see what you want and as much of it as possible without having to contend with anyone else requests etc.

Having that said, i dont think i could go the whole way to egypt on my own, if i went with my partner, if we get lost or anything undesirable happens at least we would have each other

I often travel by myself as most of my friends have jobs where our holidays just don't align. As much as I love travelling with my friends I enjoy it just as much by myself as you don't have to wait for people and you can do as you please. I'm not really one for plans and timetables. I guess it just depends how out going you are and if you find it easy to make friends. If you are not good at meeting new people every few days then one of those groups things could be a great idea.

I island hopped in Hawaii, my sister and brother-in-law stayed in Oahu, I went to Kauai by myself for 2 nights.
I'm used to single holidays as I do a lot of business travel, plus nothing beats the freedom of waking up any time you want, go any where you want, do any thing you want.
Plus it's a great way to meet new people.

Dude, I went to Italy alone and I stayed a a hostel, I met so many ppl its not funny, and I even hooked up with a girl from Sweden....

The best adventure is the one with no expectations

I still did my own personal tour

I also got drunk with ppl from all over the world

GO FOR IT...make sure you know where the hostels are at cause many ppl like yourself are there!!!

I wouldn't recommend going alone personally mate what with the global terrorism threat.

or if you do go make sure you go on officially sanctioned excursions where there's a large group.

what you gotta think about is Kidnappings, they are quite frequent in "Arabic nations"

I didn't say I was going alone. I said I was going with a company that specialises in holidays for lone travellers...."lone" as in not with a friend or relation, but not "lone" as in not with anyone else at all. As I said you go as, and everything's organised as, a group. That's what I was asking about. I think some people here have misunderstood what I meant.

I understood, you still have to stick to their timetables and time constraints which makes it all crap.

for a start your rushed around the valley of kings and the Chiro antiquities museum the geza piramids and the akhenaten palace.

shame really cos you need time to take it all in, Plus you need to experience the Souks that are out there you may well be shown this but once again you'll be rushed through.

it will be like trying to experience Disney land in a day.

the museum alone is an all day jobby, especially if your lucky enough to be guided round by Zahi Hawass

Well the only choice I've got is go with a company like I've mentioned or not go at all.

So the choice is.... go by yourself and get kidnapped/raped/killed. Or go as a group and get a little rushed maybe. Tough one.

bungle ever thought of asking your parents if they want to go.

there's no shame in that as long as you pay for them

for what its worth, I would go to Egypt on my own, but the way the world is I wouldn't and I don't like guided tours because you'll never get the full the feeling of the sheer awe of the place if your herded round like cattle
