Default Planning trip to Bay Area next year
My best friend and I (me?) wanna pay Dirty Harry's city a visit next year, and are currently planning the whole thing.

Maybe there are any Onions from San Francisco, LA or anything in between here? And maybe you kind sirs have some hints and informations we could use. Any cheap (clean) hotels, what places to visit, and so on. We's stay for about 3 weeks and want to see more of the area than just SF. LA too and maybe Las Vegas.

Time will be September 2010, but we want to book the flights as soon as possible because its cheaper then.

In case someone would like to have a beer with a fellow onion from overseas PM me. )

Just so you know, LA and San Fransico are 400 miles apart.

That's about 650 kilometers, FYI.

It's like asking someone in Berlin about where to stay in Munich.

LA SF = 8 hours
LA Vegas = 4 hours

And that does not really include the traffic you will hit (unless you drove after 10PM).

If you end up in SoCal, be sure to check out Huntington Beach, Venice Beach and Newport Beach. the ride along the beach is full of cool things to see (read: voluptuous women).

We're probably making a round trip anyway. So a few days in SF, then a couple of days in LA, then LV, and then back to SF to fly home.

Make sure to go to the piers, check out Coit Tower, Palace of Fine Arts, and Golden Gate park. There are tons of excellent restaurants all over the city and can't recommend just exploring the whole city enough, it is very dynamic and there a lots of neat little places scattered throughout. On your way down to LA, if you drive, make sure to stop in Carmel which is very scenic and a nice little town right by the ocean.

It shouldnt get too romantic though, my friend and I are more interested in sports and "coool" places to visit instead of watching sunsets on the beach hehe.

I wish I could take my gf with me though, unfortunately I broke up with her, heh.

Yeah, I was more mentioning those places for sightseeing, how close you get to your friend is at your own discretion.

The piers have games and other fun stuff to do, etc.

Rent a nice car and drive down the coast using highway 1 from San Francisco. You can stop by Carmel like Mute said and even checkout Pebble Beach doing the 17 mile drive. Freaking beautiful! Then you can do Big Sir and maybe even checkout Hearst Castle. In any case it's worth driving down highway 1, takes longer than the 101, but it's worth it if you have the time. Then stop off in Santa Barbara before you get to LA, it's considered the American Riviera. Lots to do and much better than stinky LA.
