Things haven't changed all that much over generations really, just the cars and the movies/movie stars that influence the young. And because of movies etc glorifying such actions and street racing...the open road has become a playground.
I agree things haven't changed much, but I'd disagree with your last sentence.

Since the car was invented the roads have been a playground, and perhaps historically people had the most fun doing what they wanted during the 50's, when cars where attainable for anyone, road rules where lax and traffic not that signficant.

But today roads are more congested and policed than ever, with the majority of policing I believe punishing safe users, and ignoring the real reason for road deaths. But that's a discussion for another thread.

You're right. I contradicted my logic by saying nothing has changed.... But then continuing thought in only one time period. Thanks for catching that. Can't imagine it. The 50's must have been similar to how modern day Iran's traffic is.
