LOL FM can't win. Go to the Suggestions board and there're loads of threads saying "Can we have a section for this?" or "Can we have a section for that?" and now you've got people coming on saying they need FEWER sections!

I haven't been in a tech section for months, I only visit PC/Console gaiming and GD. My interest in the forefront of PC tech has died out, and I suspect it's the same for a lot of other members as well. Add to that the lack of new members and it's no wonder the board is dead.

I don't think that 5600 figure is represenative of the number of people who used to come here. If I remember rightly that was just reached because at the time there was something happening that meant a lot of people visited the site at that moment in time - I don't recall what.

It was only a few years ago that i would get home from work to find 2 pages of fresh posts in the console gaming section. Such a shame.

The problem is that benchmarking just isn't as popular anymore, and it's in direct correlation with the death of traditional PC gaming. Gone are the days of exclusive PC games pushing technology and inspiring people to overclock their rigs. It just isn't needed anymore. Most PC games are ports of console games which are obviously made for hardware that is a few years old.

The biggest reason IMO is that back in the day, ALL the benchmarkers were members here and posted regularly, now there are so many OCing sites out there that FMs piece of the pie has grown smaller. MadOnion was the whole pie back then. They were the innovators and everyone else today has just spomged off of them.
If you count up all the people who are benching now it will vastly outnumber what it was then, they just dont all post here.

the mods likely could care less, if anything, it makes their lives easier...less threads/posts = less for them to have to worry about...FM staff... it is hard to chime in when you have very little rebuttle.

Of course, this same thread or something close to it comes into existence pretty much every summer. That doesn't mean that there has not been a real decline, simply that, like the many "Computer gaming is dead" threads, planning the funeral might turn out to be slightly premature, even if the patient seems ominously quiet.
