Quite true. Every summer people find out theres life out there and a bright thing called the Sun! I know its scary, but it happens! I agree, summer has something to do with it, but imo, there are larger forces at work than just summer slowdown.

The merging of forums and reducing the sub-forums is certainly an interesing one, which we will be discussing internally on what we can do. I appreciate that. That's all myself and others were asking for: thoughtful consideration. I don't deny that on one hand having users ask for more subforums while others are asking for streamlining would be frustrating. My point was more along the lines of simply because it's frustrating or seems like it's a "can't win" doesn't mean the suggestions shouldn't be considered and arrived at by reason (what's best for FM forums) not by defensiveness and can't win frustration. From your post and past history of admins and mods on FM, obviously that isn't an issue.

I'll look foward to any changes that may or may not come out of you guys re-evaluating things. Thanks for the consideration, and more importantly, all the hard work you guys have done over the years so we can enjoy FM.[thumbup]

also, to be clear, I don't think the forums are "dead" or "dying" they are mostly alive and well, but I do think some things should be looked at and hopefully implemented to reinvigorate the FM community. If there is any way we forum goers can contribute to this, we'll be more than happy to participate.

You really are a prize prat aren't you?

Let me explain it for you in VERY SIMPLE LANGUAGE so you'll understand! People said they want one thing and now they're saying they want the opposite! What is FM supposed to do? Get it now?
Your logic is slightly flawed Bungle.

Imagine a car dealership has 3 shades of red car, where the colour is the only thing that differentiates them. One shad of red is bought 20 times a day, the others once per day. 10 of those 20 sales are from people who wanted a blue car. The dealership could get rid of the low selling red colours as well as adding a blue colour. The people who wanted red can still buy a similar colour but the ones who wanted something completely different can now buy their blue car and aren't forced to buy the next best thing.

The reality is that post density is very low in some of the gaming sub-boards, but they still fall under the umbrella of the main board of gaming, so can easily be merged in. If there is enough demand for a completely different section, then if it doesn't fall into a certain basket it could be created.

It is a shame how the forums seem deadly quiet compared to a few years ago but I think part and parcel of that is down to the 360/PS3 and Wii. I dont think, though could be totally wrong, that younger kids have been getting into pc gaming with these consoles available. Its not the same as when the majority of us got into pc's as the internet was a relatively new invention for the masses but now these consoles all incorporate internent play, and the Wii and PS3 also include a browser.

Like Lanagaleer has said though, its summer (supposedly, us Brits might question that) and people have better things to do. I bet it will get busier closer to Christmas.

I think it doesn't help that the forum link is really hard to spot from the front page. Doesn't help at all for new members.
I have noticed this also and agree that it could be an issue. I usually just follow my bookmark that takes me straight to "http://futuremark.yougamers.com/forum/", but sometimes I f ind myself on the front page and it takes me awhile to find the forum link.

News has been coming out slower for some time. Though the tech industry has been in a lull for a few years now, so that could explain it.
I remember when new technology for CPU and GPU was coming out every 6 months almost and plenty of games with them.

Games have drastically slowed down, and look at my sig. I built this rig a year ago to date and the only thing that I could change is my CPU to a $200 Phenom II, though it isn't needed at all. Nothing is as expensive as it used to be either. The variety has changed up.

Console games even seem to have slowed down.
I think that a lot of it would also have to do with independent developers and small time developers have been bought up by larger giants to help them work on their projects, or have just shut down. Look at the costs and time to make a video game these days! It is ridiculous. Not too long ago, you could essentially make a game in your basement with just a few friends in roughly a year. Cheaper to make, easier to make, ect. ect.

Then, there also has been a ton of characters that have been banned over the years that provided a lot of the entertainment. Hell, we even used to have people on here buy the latest and the greatest, just to freaking benchmark and test it out. Back when I first built my 2500+ Barton, I remember that at the time, case modding and water cooling was a pretty big thing here on FM as well. I went with case modding and my friend went water cooling.

Shoot, since then, there also has been more websites that have been created, and more games that have been created, so people end up drifting off to different newer or guild forums.

WoW would also have a lot to do with it as well. People that I never would have imagined playing WoW, or any RPG / MMORPG for that matter is playing freaking WoW.

Try looking for a program called Genuine Fractals. It'll do the job for you. Just to doubly piss people off,
A mate of mine used it to up a poster he'd made and the results were remarkable. Is that the best quality version of the pic you have? Getting infractions for posts like that may have something to do with it. I mean, Jesus. Fair enough if I'd linked to a copy

Promoting illegal software is not tollerated on FM. After all these years you've been here, I would have thought you would have twigged onto that by now [thumbdown]

Life is a flow... with waves in all heights and strenghts... Summertime is Cucumbertime as always, thoughts of nothing and boredom like of those who not go outside. but hey.. I think that's all we have to do with the retrieval of members. The stream has alterd.

So we gonna stay bitching here, leave treads about them own selfs leaving or just post what you think is needed and is considerd news or newsworthy?

I for sure, can find myself through the maze of boards... but others? I know I need to scroll down to come to the one and most important board of the site: General Discussion, others may have something different., politics and religion.. which is think has been cause of war and now is a wedge in the community. Get rid of it.

Furter I make myself guilty at some some things, but am willing to change..®©

A quick look at the join dates of most of the posters in this thread points where the forum has ended up. Most of us left on these boards are hangers on who have easily been here over 5 years. We need fresh blood but alas.

Bah, I have a lot to say but why bother? No one comes here to read anyway...

I can only submit to FM, take a good hard look at 2001. Look at what motivated you then. Look at what users and members liked to do then. Ask yourself what were you providing then to us that you are not now. Not much has changed with us, but what has changed here? I do not think it's my place to tell you how to run your business, but I think if you take a good look in the mirror and ask "where did we go wrong" in relation to maintaining a healthy web site, I believe the answers will be apparent.

Do I suspect that you'll actually do this and/or do what it takes to reclaim former glory? No... But it cant hurt to dream.

IMO, the real downhill started when this became "yougamers" instead of "real FM" forums, with the big focus on games and consoles instead of hardware.

Might be, but the thing is i´d say about 80% of the members around here don´t give a **** about PC hardware anymore.

Thing is though mate it was a joke directed at the overly moralistic nature and postings of some posters in the thread. I think it was a tad of an overreaction. I'd be amazed if any of the users in there weren't thinking torrent.

Posting it again was in all honesty an oversight Oops
