Default US to possibly get Holden cop car.
http://www.smh.com.au/drive/motor-news/

With the close of the Pontiac brand, the factory that made the GTO has been running at half the capacity, so Holden are looking for another US export oppertunity. It's not based off the Commodore though, it's based off the long wheel base Statesman/Caprice cars, Holdens luxuary line. They sound pretty confident they will get the deal, and you guys will see these puppies on the road in 2011.

Was reading about both those cars the other day in a article about finding a suitable Police car after the old Crown Victorias go out of production.
The Holden is a proven, roomy car with heaps of power but not proven in American Law Enforcement - and may face some resistance as it's seen as being non-American.
The Carbon is a locally built vehicle designed from the ground up to meet the needs of the Law Enforcement departments in America but, as a relatively new and small company, will also meet some resistance as it doesn't have a long history and there may be some question of it lasting(!).
Either one should do a good job and it'll be interesting seeing which one(s) turn up on Cops.

There used to be at least one Police Officer posting here - be interesting to read his views.

Dort Hwy FTW!

(funny story, i actually picked one up on accident - seriously... she was on the side of the road flagging people down in swartz creek, she looked all right on the driveby so i turned around, she was hysterical, didnt know what town she was in and said the guy she went home with last night from the bar (who she knew, but didnt "know") said she looked like the kinda girl who liked to be smacked around and she bailed.... well i told her i would take her for a lift, and she wanted to be dropped off at a friends store on Dort Hwy... w/e... i do it, get her there and then she made her pass if i was interested in having myself a "dort hwy girlfriend" for a little while... I passed and sent her on her way... CRAZY)

back on topic... it has been known Chevy would be bringing back the caprice, and i knew when i heard that, that the impala was going to be replaced.

Holden Statesman? They are one of my most disliked cars from Holden. They look ugly. Why couldn't they just give them the Holden Commodores like we have, they are fricken beasts. Especially when the V8 versions start chasing after their prey.

We have quite a few V8 cop cars for street racers in Newcastle. I've only ever seen one in pursuit and I was shocked at how fast they actually go[shocked].

Why? the crown vic is built in Canada, and the Holden has an American engine anyway. So it evens out the "american-ness" of it.

If they really see that as a problem they are more clueless than I thought.

Well the guys working the production line are still in Australia. That's taking away American jobs.

Though overall it would be a good move by GM to make better leverage from Holden and make use of the Elizabeth (Adelaide) plant. The WM Statesman/Caprice isn't a viable car to produce in Australia unless its exported, as local demand for it isn't strong, you do get a lot of bang for ya buck from the Statesman. The biggest exports of the car going to the Middle East, especially since the car beat Lexus for car of choice for the Middle East.
Making a US cop car from it is a great idea to further push sales.

The commodore can survive with the local market, as it's always popular.

I think on the whole the cop car looks pretty smart, and will meet the needs of the US police. Though they should ship it with some wicked black alloy wheels. [thumbup]

How so? The SS stacks up pretty well against the Charger and definitely against the Crown Victoria.

Afaik no agency uses the 5.3l SS as the police car. Most agencies use the 3.9L v6 which has 233HP.

This is the current offerings for most agencies. Anything else is really just special purpose.

Crown Vic PI
4.6L 250HP @ 5000RPM 297FT-LB Torque @ 4000
0-60 8.84AVG
0-80 14.41
0-100 24.07
Chevy Impala
3.6L V6 233HP @ 5600RPM 240LB-FT @ 4000
0-60 8.37
0-80 13.39
0-100 22.22
Dodge Charger
3.5L V6 250HP @ 6400RPM 250FT-LB Torque @ 3800
0-60 8.79
0-80 14.33
0-100 23.52

5.3L 368HP @ 5200RPM 391FT-LB Torque @ 4150
0-60 5.96
0-80 9.35
0-100 14.29

These numbers show that the impala is a bit quicker than the crown vic, but the crown vic can not only attain a higher speed but also can "handle it's own weight" at those speeds. Also, getting in and out of an Impala with all your gear is quite difficult in a impala.

That's sucks. I always assumed they got the SS and the Hemi Charger.
