Default Sleeping problems .. dammit
for some reasons my sleeping problem has caught up with me again, the last time i can ever remember this happening to me was when i was still in college (that's around 4 years ago). it occurs in no specific situation or mood in my life, it just "happens".

what happened some days ago is that despite me being physically and mentally exhausted from work, could not for some reason fall asleep. i feel tired, but my brain just wouldnt switch off. i felt really really tired by 9pm, so i tried to lie down around 10.. i ended up falling asleep at 5.30am, where i then had to wake up at 6.30am to go back to work [no]

anyone else had these problems before/ having this kind of problem now?

Occasionally have the same problem although I'm usually out within seconds.
About the only thing to do, I found, was to make sure I was really comfortable and to not worry about getting to sleep - more you dwell on it, the more it'll keep you awake.
Sometimes it helps to visualize a blacknes/blankness in front of your eyes as often insomnia is due to different things churning over in your mind.

Excercise about 2-3 hours before you plan to sleep, don't drink caffiene a minimum of 3 hrs before you plan to sleep or eat sugary foods.

If all else fails, have some sex with your significant other or rub one out... nothing like an orgasm to clear your head of meddlesome thoughts.

The only thing I have ever noticed to work is to exhaust yourself extremely hard, like try doing all nighter with no sleep at all and then try to sleep.

Sleeping pills might help but they might also cause more problems.

It's so immensely pathetic that the human body has no trouble at all to eat or breathe which we need to survive but sleeping problem is common..[thumbdown]

I find that if I go to bed really late, I usually fall asleep faster. Try staying up till 12 before going to bed and see if that makes a difference.

Go polyphasic, it's actually used to treat people with sleeping problems.

Would it really be that bad? I'd be happier regularly taking 1mg of Melatonin and sleeping than regularly not sleeping all night.

melatonin isn't really the sleeping pill they were talking about. It does help, for sure. But just taking one, won't make me sleep. Taking them nightly over a week or two, though, certainly helps me get into the habit of falling asleep faster though. Oh, and the dreams a supersized, too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep

You could try the "Everyman" sleeping pattern which yields more sleep and it's suppossedly a lot easier to adjust to. Uberman is cool but it's torture to adapt to[no]

9 hours every day at work +some more hours afterwards.. i do get some "exercise" daily.. mostly walking to and from work (amounts to around 30-40minute brisk walks a day)

the latest hour i get some coffee in my body is around 3 or 4pm, and i make it a point not to drink any caffeinated drink past 7pm. the annoying thing is it happens really randomly, ive been living with a "proper" body clock for a long time now (sleep around 11pm wake up at 6am) and suddenly this thing strikes me again :\

and i read (actually skimmed .. very lightly) on the Polyphasic thing just now, and i dont think it'll work for me. im the type of guy that if a nap for like 2 hours in the afternoon, it could easily keep me awake till the next morning

Read it in more detail, it could work for you.

I couldn't do it because of the lack of napping facilites at work but I would really like to try it out.

I've tried sleeping less at night, but I seem to be a bad clocker when it comes to wake time overclocking

Read it in detail

in a VERY summarized way it comes down to this. The everyman sleep patern means you'll be sleeping a "Core" nap of no longer than 3 hours during the night; then, you will nap three times during the rest of the day (you work out the spread) and the naps should not be longer than 20 mins. Total time sleep = 4 Hours.

If you're feeling hardcore, then go for the Uberman. The ideal objective is to sleep no more than 20 minutes, 6 times a day in an even spread (every 4 hours). Total sleep time = 2hours. - I can tell you right off the bat that this one is "extremely" hard to adapt to, but there are people who have done it.

As I said, read more in detail. You're already living hell by not being able to sleep, so this may help, as I said earlier, people with sleeping disorders have been given these patterns as treatments so read more about it.
