Default Would I be risking open cat-warfare?
We have two cats (had them for about 5 years now). They are both 7 years old (female).

My wife has been contacted by somone wanting to get rid of a 2 year old male Birman (the person is older with balance problems and does not want to fall on the cat as it hangs around their feet a lot).

Question is, can I reasonably expect to be able to introduce another cat into our house (I know there will be some initial stress etc). Will that pass and the 3 will then get on - or will it really be not worth the hassle and stress for the cats? Obviously it depends on the cats temprements also - I'm just trying to get a general idea.

Question is, why would you want another one of those knuddly hairballs, that roam the house as it were theirīs, leaving a trace of hair and scratch marks on all you belongings and occasional peeing on something cause they canīt deal with having another in their territory ?
Honestly if my wife would ever leave me, that would be the moment iīll feed the catīs to my snakes.

but back to your question,
My wife says a good trick is taking a old towel where your cats like to rest/reside on, and rub the new cat a bit with it,
that way the new cat will have a familiar smell and apparently thatīs like signing a peace agreement for cats
(of course she didnīt read the first half of my post )

take it slowly, try introducing something with the other cats smell on it first. It can be done, but don't expect them to ever be best mates

Personally I'd use the shotgun to introduce them.

You know thinking about it, you could pass some Catnip around, dim the lights a bit and play some Barry White,..
Thatīll have em happy in a bunch

Ive heard putting them into a a kennel separately putting them face to face for a bit can help introduce them. It will be pissy for awhile though.

For those of you whom are males, yet own cats. Do you consider yourself a "man"?

if male cats think like male humans, I doubt it will be a problem

Yes, as long as you don't refer to them as "the boys," "the girls," or "the kids."

Anyway, you have to introduce them slowly, and they might never get along. However, they should at least tolerate each other.

I have been feeding 2 Toms that live in the woods or under my house somewhere for about 4 years and still to this day they will get balled up and fight each time they are near each other. Unfortunately this makes a horrific noise when it happens. The screeches and hisses will wake the dead. Good luck.

You know, my babies didn't get along at all at first. Now Ms. Fluffy Kitty, and Snug Lee are practically friends.

My mom's cat's are different. Her cat molly doesn't really like Rocky Maine Coon, but she tolerates him.
