Cool, will look at them tmoz. Anyone know what the Ghostbusters transfer is like?
Ghosbusters looks pretty good, but you have to keep in mind that it's a 25 year old movie as well. I could see them coming out with a re-release in the future that looks better, though.

Highdefdigest.com is a great source for Blu-ray reviews though. They have a great forum there too.

Blade Runner is 27 years old and is arguably the best looking blu-ray in my collection [thumbup]

Well movies directed by talented, artistic people, with an eye for depth of field, lighting, and low-light situations, along with wonderful cinematographers and expensive camera gear, tend to fair better than low-budget sci-fi comedy by a comedy director with no real gauge for artistic integrity. Reducing grain, maintaining a high level of detail, and producing accurate and vibrant colors is just as reliant on the film crew as it is the transfer. Another big factor is how well the source film is kept.

That's a big reason why, IMO, most comedies and no-brain action movies from decades ago don't look anything amazing on Blu-ray, but most oscar-caliber Sci-fi's and acclaimed dramas tend to look pretty terrific.

Its OK, but there are some problems... They overexposed LOTS of scenes for no reason. Eg: the end with gozer or whatever, that entire sequence is blown out and the smoke and the lighting is just pure white.

There are a few really really good looking movies, they are mostly the ones they spent no money on transferring either..

Look up reviews at avsforum for screenshots.

I would recommend a BluRay player; discs don't play on TVs.

I've seen just about every blue ray DVD out, and although it's by no means a great movie, 10,000 BC had the most stunning, jaw droping visuals of any thus far.

Indeed, finish watching the movie first, they'll grow on ya (PQ and Storyline)

Although my first choice is still Ratatouille; awesome Pixar movie, best PQ I've seen to date!

Oh and don't forget Planet Earth!

Cheers, going in to town in a bit. This TV is stunning, bloody amazing when I ran Batmanark Knight and the full scene parts!

Can anyone recommend the best settings? I have a Sony Bravia KDL-32W5500, want ones that are balanced for movies and PS3. [help]

Maybe one of your DVDs has a THX optimizer, I think Disney Blu-rays may also have one too. If you have a PC connected to the TV there's Nokia Monitor Test: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multime...tor-Test.shtml

Get a greyscale up, make sure each of the bars is well defined and visible (blacks and whites are not crushed) and go from there.

Sorted it, I had Full Range under settings for the PS3 and it was making my picture too dark. Much better now, thanks for the links! [thumbup]
