With respect to the last 30 years, I guess you've never heard of ESTEC. Google it.
the ESA needs to spend more money!

Oh, its spending it, don't worry. Would be even better though if the UK would finally pull its finger out of its arse and start funding human spaceflight.

yeah we do. i can't remember the figures, but the amount we spend on space flight per person (of population) is very much considerably less than the US

Human spaceflight activities at ESA are optionally funded - which means that unlike non-manned spaceflight activities, ESA member states can choose if they want to fund manned spaceflight activities or not. To date the UK has decided not to. If the UK was to fund then it would mean more money into the manned spaceflight program (and more industrial contracts for UK companies to bid for and work on).

Does the UK not have companies like the Dutch STORK Aerospace or TenCate Fabrics which develop materials and technology for aviation and spaceprograms ?

If the UK would fund, they must have a base they can built from. Knowledge and companies who are capable of this. I am not aware of much British knowledge concerning this.

(might be my own lack of knowledge I ask this).

Yes they do, but currently their efforts are focused to "neutral" activities such as developing materials for general space usage, not manned spaceflight specifically.

The UK is not directly involved in the ISS for example, as they do not contribute to funding manned spaceflight activites under the ESA HSF activities.

By deciding not to fund manned spaceflight activities the UK is missing out on some sizeable industrial contracts, which can only be bid for and won by countries that are actively funding the ESA human spaceflight programmes.

Where the UK excels currently is the development of low-cost satellites (SSTL etc). There is however plenty of expertise in the UK that could be leveraged to human spaceflight activites, but until the UK decides to fund ESA directly in these areas then its a wasted opportunity.

Maybe it's just like everyone else's holiday. I know I usually leave something behind, then remember it halfway back home while in the car or on the plane.

Maybe Buzz was sitting in the capsule as they where re-entering the atmosphere.

Buzz "Lance, did you remember to pack our toothbrush's?"
Lance "yes Buzz"

Buzz "Did you remember to look under the bed?"
Lance "Yes, and I checked the bathroom"

Buzz "Did you pack the moonrock for the dutch?"
Lance "Oh crap..."

Who's Lance?
Too much tour de France for me [rofl]

I was watching tv and mindlessly posting (as usual).

Still it probably added some much needed humour into a not very funny post.
