Wait, it was the late 60's and Holland. Do you blame 'em? They were probaby worried one of those crazy bastards might try to stuff it in a bong and smoke it! lol

Seriously though, makes you wonder how the f* somethig like this could happen.

Man, I could do much better in this world as a grifter, grifting is where it's at.

Honesty and integrity is for the sheeple.

Totally inaccurate headline from the Telegraph there - Armstrong and Aldrin were never involved; the rock was given by the then American ambassador to Holland. A genuine sample would have been certainly handed over and I'll bet money on it being swapped by some light-fingered museum staff at some point in the past.

Hell, it might not have even made it to the museum to begin with. It was a long time between when it was given to the PM and when it was given to the museum.

Makes me wonder if we are the only country to which this has happened.

It is sad to know that people were mislead this way who may have come from far just to see a piece of moon...

ugh, why do you give me fake rock?

it was a joke, i'm a firm believer in the moon landings, it just seems incredibly stupid to hand out an old piece of wood and call it moon rock.

Why would you give a real rock to Holland of all places?

of course purse speculation here but real one might have really been stolen or swapped by someone.

those real rocks really are worth a lot of money. plus its scientific value of course.

I totally agree that it sucks for those who went to look at it.. BUT Neeyik has a point. I really can't see the American's passing off a piece of petrified wood as moonrock. In all likelyhood it was real at one point but the original has long since been replaced. Still though I bet this is going to cause them a bit of a embarrassment regardless and they will land up making it up to the Dutch people.

yeah thats the question tho .. where did it end up ??

this not only happens with moon rock, sometimes even paintings at museums can turn out to be fakes.

i wonder who made money out of this tho.

this is a rock that's been around 40 years though. it hasn't had that long to disappear. i cant see how that could happen anyway.

With respect to the last 30 years, I guess you've never heard of ESTEC. Google it.
