Default Have ever known someone that's illiterate?
If you have, could you explain what their life was like and what was the reason behind their illiteracy? It's late and I can't sleep and this had me curious

Almost all of my clients are illiterate. This would be from the moderate to severe mental retardation in most cases. Even then a bunch of the higher functioning ones can read and write to some degree.

I have met and are freinds with a few ppl who cant read or write who were not retarded at all, just a bit slower than most ppl. They typicaly just recognise shapes and logo's for shops although they couldnt tell me what the sign said.

They tend to pick out the first and last letter and make up the rest of the word oh any anything thats in "grown up" joined up writing ends up being full of y's

And they just plain ignore anything with more than a few paragraphs of text in it.

But its suprising how well they get on, 99% of ppl never even notice, they just claim they made a mistake or say sorry I havnt got my glasses or ive got a bit of a headache can you read this for me.

My mom used to date this guy who couldn't read/write. He claimed he made it all the way to the 10th grade like that. (he was like 8 years older than me!) Which I always found hard to believe because when I was in like the 4th grade we had to read a ton of stuff.

So, you are from Michigan, your mother is dating a guy barely older than you... do you live in a trailer park too, B Rabbit?

10th grade education though, damn that is impressive for Michigan. Probably over-qualified for any executive GM position.

illiteracy and dyslexia are often mistaken as the same thing. in my opinion if you dont have any neurological disorders or deficiencies illiteracy is a result of poor or inadequate education.

The older generation seem to be more affected by this as when my grand parents or even parents were in school, education took second place in a lot of poor families where offspring would try to find jobs to support the family when parental income didnt suffice

My wife's sister married a guy who's dad is also his brother. Epic win IMO.

Elle oh elle at your error in a thread about illiteracy.

Now, I actually thought about this.

If your dad is your brother that means that your mother had a son and then got knocked up by him? Cool! Talk about going back from which you came.

At least he kept it real.

It annoys me how every stupid person is diagnosed with dyslexia these days. I know it exists, because i have friends with it, but that doesn't give every stupid person the right to diagnose themselves as dyslexic. Get over it mate, and face facts that you're just stupid.

Well, now that we've caught onto the ADHD and Autism bullshit they need a new disorder to blame for people being stupid.
