Ok, so on one of my clan's forums, a member posted about doing a short term upgrade to his old dell computer when another member posted this:
He wrote: ATI is definately the way to go..esp since they are already in development for direct X 11... nvidea is ati, as AMD is intel....nvidea and amd are the generic brands (hence why they are always cheaper, run extra hot, and break alot sooner. if you can afford to buy new hardware for failing parts, then go cheap, if u want a computer to last u, buy good parts....nvidea is def not as bad as amd, but they do run awefully hot, and in the day where everything is getting faster and is more suspectable to heat, I tend to shy away from parts known for heat issues./.. just my 2 cents.. if anything worth doing, its worth doing it right! I responed: DirectX11 won't matter for a long time, and isn't even a consideration for the short term upgrade NC's looking at... There are hardly any games that support DX10 right now, and the ones that do don't look much better at all vs. DX9 for the performance difference you pay. I also don't understand how you call Nvidia and AMD generic brands. They're not at all, no more than ATI & Intel are. They're just another company that makes products of the same type like Ford vs. Chevy, Toyota vs. Honda, etc... Nvidia designs the chipsets for their video cards just like ATI does, then various manufacturers use the chipsets in their own boards. It's not like Nvidia manufactures cheaper generic version of ATI chiptsets... I've had an equal amount of ATI & Nvidia cards go bad on me, it depends more on the chipset design, build quality from the manufacture (solder connections, thermal management etc), and case cooling for long term use than anything else. Both company's & their designs have their strengths and weaknesses. That being said, considering your card has to be an AGP card, looking at Newegg it looks like ATI's going to be a better bet with either the 4650 or 4670. It looks like Nvidia stopped making chipsets for their more recent designs in AGP cards. He responded: AMD = generic Intel...FACT they are always cheaper, always 2 steps behin in techniology, and AMD directly ripped off intels architecture to stay in a race.... nvidea = generic vs ATI = premium....once again, there is a reason thier cards are cheaper and dont offer they same technology. and diect x 11 will matter....directx 10 like vista is a short legacy...we are moving right towards 11...so go ahead by hardware that is already outdated and waste money,, its not my money im only offering suggestions, and NC is the type of guy to not have to buy something all the time... buy the generic brands and old hardware, youll find yourself upgrading all the time....thats a fact jack Anyone feel like giving me more ammo to throw at him, or should I just ignore this sheer ignornace? I find it funny he's talking about directx 11 as if it matters considering the guy has to get an AGP card... I find it even more hilarious he thinks Nvidia is a generic company copying ATI... I don't even know if I should bother responding or just ignore it at this point... It's frustrating when people can't see past their own ignorance. |
