Default Some people never cease to amaze me
"We do not have a shortage. The problem is that there was an overload of demand on the main power production plant, which has caused the outage," from : http://www.gulfnews.com/nation/General/10342159.html

wow..just, wow.ive been living in the area for around 3 years already and it would surprise anyone just how fast new high-rise buildings get built in a matter of months. they're so busy trying to find ways to generate cash that they dont even care about the consequences, mostly since its the common worker that'll be affected. there were even some articles beforehand wherein the representatives first blame it on a "failed generator" and then say that "people should learn how to conserve energy", how? is it a person's fault to switch on the AC when the temperatures at night reach 40c?

such a typical scenario here really, the management make all the choices and the common people take the crap.

our area suffered 3 days without electricity and it just got fixed earlier today, still some people are at home without electricity as i type this.

So it wasn't that they couldn't supply the power but that the customers wanted too much, I see [rolleyes].
As you said, there's a lot of building going on which can be done quite quickly and easily - it's a whole different ball game getting the utilities in the area upgraded to suit the new demand. There're some interesting projects in that area for underground water and waste water networks.

Heh, I live in an area where all my childhood ALL buildings where rather small. But in the past year several high rise residential buildings started to pop up everywhere, mainly on the water front and new shops opened up everywhere too. It's like a small suburb of maybe 50k people will suddenly boost up to 200k within the next year. It's crazy and I don't like it. It's forcing the government to put in new traffic lights which is causing a larger build up of traffic jams due to the increase in population and peek hour is beginning to become a nightmare. I wish it can go back to the small popuulated suburb near the beach and lake, peek hour will be as good as driving normally etc etc.

I'll probably be forced to move into the country if this keeps up. I hate populated areas.

Tghis is why I'm against people breeding like bacteria - use up ever increasing resources that are largely in decline - we really need some superbug to take out a good percentage of the population over the next few years.

So long as it isn't me[no]. But you may get your wish anyways. With increase popularity becomes poorer health (as things are forced to increase in price due to supply and demand and a lot of people will be too poor to afford stuff) and people will eventuallly start dying off in masses as our world slowly starts to crumble away.

But this is completely wrong in so many ways. I'm not talking about the moral issues

Birth Rates have been on the decline severely. Most economists believe the population will peak at 9 billion and then begin to decline. So no one is breeding like bacteria.

except that in order to feed even the population we have now (which i might add there are still ~1 billion that do not eat enough food) we have to use chemicals and methods which destroy the very land we are growing on....saying "it will only grow to 9 billion then start to decline" seems pretty red herring to me, as we aren't exactly at the top of our game now...so i don't have much faith things will improve if and when the pop increases by 50%

Populations of educated and weathly people are in the decline. Poor countries are rapidly expanding.

Look at the shitty countries in green and yellow here:

Also, more shitty countries near the top of this list:

We just need to stop helping any of those countries and the problem should solve itself!
