Default Laser Vision Correction
Has anybody had this done on here? If so, what was it like during, immediately afterwards, and later on? I'm having a free consultation on Monday, and am a bit nervous about going ahead, after watching some youtube videos of it going wrong!

My wife has - she has zero problems.

She is also a Laser Optometrist - she does the consultations for it, like you are having on Monday, so I guess you could say she has faith in the procedure [thumbup]

I've thought about it, but won't do it.

The gains I would get are far outweighed by the potential of loss of vision. I feel the risk's aren't worth it, glasses still suffice for me.

Personally didn't like the look of them clamping something to my eyeball.

Blindness is extremely uncommon. What is somewhat common, unfortunately, is lifelong discomfort. That was the biggest turnoff to me. I have tons of problems with contacts, and I'd go nuts if my eyes felt like that for the rest of my life.

I'm happy with glasses, but my most recent pair sucks. First lenses - HORRIBLE chromatic aberration. Second lenses - scratched to hell within a week. 3rd set of lenses... scratched it seems. I use ONLY microfiber cloths. They get tiny little scratches in them. I think these were flawed though. The center of both lenses catch light in the most annoying way. If I look directly at a light I get a bad halo effect, most noticable on white light. I have to get lighting conditions just perfect to watch TV.

I'm considering switching back to my last pair of glasses. 2 years and I had no problems other than the frames broke at the bridge. So much for flexible titanium frames. But these new glasses have everything. Teflon coating, transitions, I went all out. And they suck hard. Worst pair of glasses I've ever owned.

I have since found out that the video wasnt a treatment going wrong, but a LASEK procedure where they put alcohol in the eye to loosen a thin layer, and scrape it off. Luckily I wont have that, and want the LASIK version thats all done by laser.

Used to freak me out as well, but as i've got older, and my eyesight has deteriorated, I can put up with that. Honestly though, with the anesthetic that they use, you cannot feel a thing! I was going to go for LASIK, but now I will change to LASEK, as I've found way to many people with complaints further down the line due to the flap being cut deeper than it does with LASEK.

I had it done a few years back.

Everyone responds differently to the procedure. For me, it felt like I had some grit in my eye for the first day or so, fuzziness was completely gone shortly after that, and the halos went away after 2 or 3 months.

Now from what I have heard from other people is those time frames can be radically different. I had a friend that didn't lose his halos for about 5 or 6 months.

When it comes down to it, I am very glad I had the procedure done and have never had second thoughts about it.

Oh, and I only had one complication during my procedure. Turns out my eye sockets are smaller then average, so the doctor had a little trouble fitting some of the tools past the bone. It was uncomfortable, but not intolerable.

And you won't hardly even feel it when they cut away the cornea.

What procedure did you have? I just have Astigmatism, and am booked in for Intralase LASIK, with Advanced CustomVue Wavefront.

I'd have to dig out the paperwork for the exact procedure. All I can really say is it was the standard Lasik procedure. I was close to needing PRK because of the issue with the tools I mentioned before, but since the doc managed to eventually get the tool in place, I ended up not needing PRK.

Edit: Oh, and as for what I had, I also had an astigmatism which made my vision near sighted.

I had laser eye surgery at 10:30 this morning, and OMG what a difference it has made! Everything is in Quad Ultra High Definition in the distance, and even better close up, such as this LCD monitor. I can see the outline of each pixel on screen! My eyes ache a bit, and have a few slight shots of pain, but this is perfectly acceptable, and very minor really. They are a bit bloodshot, but that will clear in a week. Still a bit of hazyness just now, but this is getting better as the day goes on. I was so nervous in the waiting area, and it didnt help that a poor old lady had paid for a lense to be inserted in her eyes, and still had a prescription, and was in tears because she still needed glasses after the operation..

The procedure felt quite claustrophobic, and my heart was pounding like never before, and I did feel a slight panic towards the end, but managed to calm myself a bit. Was glad when I was told to sit up! Everything was very hazy, but I could tell immediately that I had a improvement. The best bit was the time during the actual laser operation itself. The red dot I was told to look at, and the oval ring of light around the dot suddenly became clear and circular, so I knew it was working!! Just got allot of eyes drops to contend with now, and I have to wear some special eye covers whilst sleeping!

Yep, what you said brings back a lot of memories. I remember doing all that.

Good to hear the operation went well.

I always planned when i was growing up that i would have laser surgery on my left eye when i became an adult because it has very poor vision. Unfortunately i enquired with my optician a couple of years ago and they said that my eye is too bad to have it corrected.

It's a shame because my right eye isn't too bad so i would only need the surgery on one eye, so i wouldn't have to worry about being totally blind if they bodge it up. Hopefully the technology will improve in time so that i can get it done.
