Default Saw a bad accident on the way home.
A little before 5:00pm and well after 6:15pm I'd gather. It took me about 1hr 15 to get home.

I was able to snap some quick pics with the phone.

There was a Semi about 100yards down that I didn't get a pic of, but it had its front end all beat up. I'd guess that the semi rear ended the brown SUV in the first pic, which somehow collided with the silver SUV, and somehow later on the pickup got hit in the rear by either the cars, or the semi and flipped in the process.

We can all learn a valuable lesson here. Don't get rear-ended by Tractor trailers. It doesn't end well.

So far 1 fatality was reported, but I'm not sure about the other drivers and passengers. I'd imagine that the fatality was probably the brown SUV since it looks like the first car the Tractor hit.

This is why I'm always scanning my rear-view mirror when traffic slows dramatically. I got rear ended once with about a 30 mph speed differential and it was a real eye opener for one's vulnerability out there.

Ive had something similar (not rear ended) but I had to brake heavily because of a snarl up ahead of me, so I flicked my hazards on and watched my rear view only to see some **** lock up and cross his arms over his face.....

I knew he was gonna hit me so I took the risk and wheel spinned out of where I was into the next lane (luckily it was clear) the bloke just managed to stop before he would have hit the car in front of me but If I hadn't of taken my manovre my car would have been in the breakers .

basically now if I ever see a big snarl up ahead I pull over into the far LH lane if its clear and Im ready to drive off the road and up the embankment if it all kicks off i'd rather rip my front body kit off than see the ole girl in breakers

Last year I saw a traffic accident on my way back from seeing Indiana Jones. I was slowing making my way up to some lights as someone decided to drive through a red light. They got smacked into by one truck then spun out into the other lane where they were hit by another vehicle and then came back towards us and clipped the car in front of us. The weird thing is once the first impact occurred (and you could see what would happen just before it did) things kind of slowed down and their was a strange graceful ballet to it. It was as if things had been set in motion and were playing out as physics which had taken over was dictating.

I jumped out of the car and ran over to the truck that had caused the crash as the cabin was filling up with smoke. The door was kind bent out of shape and jammed so I had to use all my strength to pull it open as the fumes cleared I could see both the women there not even wearing seat belts! There's too many idiots on the roads.

Or,drive a Subaru and you'll live to see the story about you being sandwiched between two tractor trailers on the news that evening.

Had that happen to me, but I had a 10 foot drop off on my left and oncoming traffic to my right.

So I had to sit their and listen to the car skidding towards my rear. He ended up only taking out my bumper, but when I got out I noticed his tyres where almost bald which pissed me off even more. To this day it pisses me off everytime I look at the rear bumper, despite me taking it back to the repairers 3 times, they still haven't got it sitting right [cursing]

There is nothing but luck that saved that mans life. No technical engineering can save you from the fact that he was hit by an object massing probably 20x his car.

His WRX was probably 3,300lbs or so, most loaded tractor trailers have a maximum weight near 100,000lbs.

He is VERY lucky to be alive. He's even more lucky to still have all of his limbs too.

My dads been in a serious accident similar to that. Except it was the front of the car that got smashed. He was seated in the rear passengers seats when the car crashed in the back of a parked truck. The engine flew through the car into the rear and my dad was found lying face first on top of the engine. He suffered from 3rd degree burns and a couple broken bones. My dads best mate was killed instantly and the drivers walked (ran) away with a lost knee cap.

EDIT: Moral of the story, drink driving - It's a crime.

Also my dad was going to catch a cab but he was to smashed (drunk, celebrating his best mates B-Day) and his mates decided to persuade him into going into the car instead.
