Default Movie editing nerds i need help.
I've been doing some gaming videos amongst others in sony vegas then i noticed that the movies was coming out ghostly. Something to do with interlacing, But i cannot fix it no matter what settings i try. The source file is uncompressed avi. Even if i render it to another uncompressed avi i still get the ghosting.

funny thing is, Windows moviemaker doesnt have this problem. Its not hugely noticable on the movies but this image will give the the idea of the problem. Check the preview window.

Also I've only just this second uploaded the videos to youtube so they might not have gone HD yet.

thanks for any help guys.

Take a gander at your interlacing settings.

I have the same issues when taking footage off a camcorder with my tuner card.

Yeh its wierd, I've pretty much tryed every setting under the interlacing and it doesnt solve the problem. The source file is perfect.

Also, take a look at your output framerate.

I've seen similar occurances when the output is at a lower framerate then the input when using certain de-interlacers. Instead of simply dropping a frame, it will try and blend 2 frames into one frame, which gives that appearance of ghosting.

I just thought this yeh, the uncompressed avi is running at 60fps, but my rendered movie is pal 25fps.

But still, why does Ms moviemaker render the file fine with the same settings :\ ?

You would need to use SuperSampling when coming from high frame rate source.

View/Video Bus Track or Ctrl+Shift+B

You should see an extra track in the timeline. Click on the 'Automation Settings' icon and select 'Show Automation Controls'. Click on where it says 'Motion Blur' and select SuperSampling. Either 2x or 3x should do I think. It reduces the ghosting effect and smoothens out the the video for lower frame rates.
