OMG! Its a sidevalve engine! Old fashioned, but very easy to strip down and rebuild, unlike the new Over Head Valve or even Honda's Over Head Cam engines. My Briggs & Stratton sidevalve is a hybrid. Burns oil and petrol!! [rofl] Must get round to renewing the piston rings.

Very nice! We have an old Lawn-Boy from like the the 80's. My dad is an engineer and has re-built it a couple times. Works great though.

Dude, that is the best mower one can get up to $500.00! You have no idea how I have been researching this.

Also, this 6.75 torque Briggs and Stratton engine IS a 4-cycle motor! This is a PIMP machine. The best walk-behind mower sub $550.00!

I don't know of any 2-cycle push mowers, and there are a sh/t town of mowers with that 6.75 torque.
As long as the mower doesn't clog up, starts easy and can cut some pretty thick grass, it is a good mower.


You should let your grass get a little tall to see how it handles tall grass. What I don't like about my mower is if the grass gets a little too tall, instead of throwing the grass out of the side evenly, leaving a nice row of clipped grass, it spits it out in clumps which really pisses me off. How can you have a nice fresh cut yard with clumps of grass!? Then after words you have to pick them up or kick them around a little bit so that you don't kill the grass under it.

This is what I got, its a work out on a medium sized yard but being able to get some exercise and enjoy being outside without an annoying motor in front of you.

Well..... I already gave my opinion of CR (consumer reports). [thumbdown] CR don't know chit. They rate one mower as wonderful and another mower as sucks when in all reality they are the exact same mower with the same engine, same blade, same deck, same transmission and same type of drive system. How can one rate differently than the other? They're exactly the same. They rate different because the people that rate them don't know chit and only rate on how they 'FEEL' about it and not it's actual performance capabilities. I also think it is suspicious that Home Depot mowers rate in CR as good and Lowes mowers rate in CR as bad.

This 6.75 torque Briggs and Stratton engine DOES come on almost every mower. There is nothing unique about this engine and which is also why I chose it. Parts availability and reliability and easy to work on for a long term mowing investment all with plenty of power to tackle any yard mowing needs I'll ever need.

Since I've been lawn mower shopping, the grass in the back yard did get pretty tall. Much of it was almost a foot tall. There were some areas where the grass was very thick and tall too. The mower handeled it like a champ. In the worst of it, the mower did bog down but never stalled out. All this with the mulcher on.

This is my first real mulching mower and it is awesome. The yard looks like it's been bagged but with the ease of using a side discharge type mower. No clumps of grass or rows of grass or anything. Even where the grass was very thick, it mulched it perfectly and left no clumps.

I would completely recommend this mower to anyone. But that isn't saying much because there are several other mowers that are exactly the same. I imagine the biggest differences you will find are the drive systems and the blade. The Toro Recycler I know is probably one of the most similar mowers since I know it has the exact same blade. I haven't looked at the blades on other mowers.

You could spend more money on an aluminum deck but I think it's pointless. There is also an electric ignition starter you can get, but it's not necessary for me and you'd have to keep the battery charged. You could get a Honda engine which costs more too, but it will likely be more expensive to maintain over the long run without being any better or more powerful than the others. You could get a cheaper Tecumeseh (sp?) engine, but I think parts availability and reputation of the B&G was the best choice. All three engines are about 6.5 horse power. The B&G is the only one that rates it's torque.

I want to mow again today, but all my mowing is done. I'm thinking about going up to Lowes and price an edger. I'm having fun working in the yard right now. :P

That is pretty sweet though. Sounds like a kicka$$ mower. I don't like to multch the grass, but my mower can barely handle it. I wonder how much torque it has. I know that it has 6.25hp, but this was back with HP was what they used to rate the mowers. I bet that it only has like 5.5 torque.


If you still wanna mow, what you could do is mow your neighbors yard. Will help make your yard look even nicer!

It actually does quite well on most things with the exception of sticks thicker than say your pinky, but we have trees that drop lots of little twigs and seed clumps and stuff and it chews them up, but then I usually walk at a pretty brisk pace when im using it so that helps.

Oh nice. I don't really mow sticks much bigger than my pink anyway. I can't say I've really even used those types of mowers but I am familiar with them.

At the farm house (the house I grew up in) my dad got a Yazoo after I moved out. Of course that was like 13 years ago. It was the same type of mower as in your pic. I guess it looked kinda like this. Those types of mowers... not sure what you call them, are nice. They're fast too.
