I guarantee if you ask some of the people that claim to be "overclockers" these days what, for example, CAS is, or what the safe upper limit of a PCI bus is, they'll just spit, sputter, and act like idiots. Ask that back in the day, and you'd have a thread full of information and a heated, intelligent debate from several insane overclockers.
Or they comment about a hard drive filling with oil...

I think the crazy modders are still out there... but public interest has dwindled in this area - so any thread/article they are likely to write up wont be first pushed on madonion... not like they were in the old days anyway.

However you can find plenty of invovled/intellectual discussion regarding mods ect on the below website

http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/
Thanks for the link!

Default Do you remember when computer geeks were crazy?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtufuXLvOok

And did stuff like this all the time? Doesn't it seem like the wild mods and other things are kinda fading away?

Where did all that creativity go?

They realized it wasn't practical, thus they moved on with their life.

I'd imagine that it would **** up the harddrive if it filled up with oil.

pretty much, not only is it not practical, but it doesn't cool any better if at all than typical aircooling. Now, if you ran hollow tubing throughout the case and pumped cool air through the tubing it would, but you might as well just get water cooling, cheaper, less hassle and no chance of 8 gallons of mineral oil leaking everywhere.

The modding forums on here died when Ws_jp and Cathar dissappeared.

First off, I agree with UglyChild for one, but for a different reason. A lot of the insane modders that I can remember have gotten married, had kids, and have moved on with their lives.

Secondly, I honestly think that the world is just getting stupider, so the ingenuity is out the door. People these days (kids in particular) seem to both get rewarded for conformity and lack of a brain, and they get their asses kissed by people because it's easier to simply appease idiots than it is to punish them and make them think and learn. It also goes with mommy and daddy want little Johnny to feel special while they pour all their time into work.

See, if you think about it, all the modders that did the crazy junk were part of that generation that didn't have X-Box, Playstation, and everything else. We (they) had to use imagination and think creatively. That's pretty well gone in the world.

I mean, come on. . .why do you think companies started having to make tools to overclock crap with? They have to cater to the lowest common denominator. I guarantee if you ask some of the people that claim to be "overclockers" these days what, for example, CAS is, or what the safe upper limit of a PCI bus is, they'll just spit, sputter, and act like idiots. Just my opinion, though, and I'm sure someone will scream and cry about it telling me I'm full of crap.
