Uh oh. My most trusted critic has panned it! [shocked] Saw it last night and enjoyed the film, not everyones cup of tea though thats for certain. Rorschach, doc m and comedian were the best characters imo. ***Sort of spoiler*** The chick who plays laurie was absolutely terrible, almost spoilt the whole movie. The movie was very close to the comic book, however the ending was changed and therefore some of the other parts of the movie as well. Wasn't a bad change though, i thought they did it quite well and it all made sense. Some key points of the comic were left out which i thought was a shame for the character development. |

Well I was wondering and it happened with unexpected results. Ebert gives watchmen 4 outta 4.
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...IEWS/903049997 I am quite surprised. Should be noted I'm sure he's never even seen the comic. and he watched it a 2nd time: http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2009...ie_im_jus.html |

14hrs 30mins.....
At the moment I don't know what to expect. On the one hand this is Watchmen, my favourite book of all time, and the thought of seeing those characters on the big screen does make me all smiley. To his credit Snyder seemingly has used the comic as a storyboard as some scenes are almost mirror images of the comic. On the other hand, for a long time I was firmly in the camp that said it was un-filmable and any adaptation could never hope to match the book. Given some reviews it seems that Moore was right, and Watchmen really was a showcase for all the things comics could do and films never could (at least, not without losing your average audience member after the 4th flashback). Then of course there is the fact that I am going into the movie knowing that there is about 60 minutes worth of footage waiting to be put back into the film, so I'm not getting the 'proper' Watchmen film experience.... which is kind of a shitter really. If nothing else, it'll be an interesting experience. |

This sounds silly, but I'm hesitant to read the graphic novel until after I see the movie, because I don't want it to spoil the plot ![]() But it's much less about the "surprise" of what happens as much as the story itself. And undoubtedly the movie isn't going to nail it the same way the novel does. |

I'd read it. (But being a fan of the comic, I guess I would say that!)
My enjoyment of Watchmen doesn't come from the plot that drives the story, but more from the characters, their background stories, and the impact that they all had on the world. And given that those characters stories are told through numerous flashbacks, I'm not sure how much of it they can keep in. By the time that the Super Extended Director's cut is released they will have added 65 minutes worth of footage to the film, which should give you an idea of how much is being cut out of the cinematic release. If you have easy access to a copy then go for it, but given how close we are to the release, I wouldn't go out your way for it. Tales of the Black Freighter; ![]() ![]() ![]() |
