So California has been in a drought for the past few years. The winters have been lackluster to say the least. Things weren't looking any better this winter until a week ago. We've had 6 inches to a foot here and there since november, but nothing serious. Finally we got a snow storm worth something. This is great news for those who enjoy winter activities (oh yeah the pow was great) and great news for the state in general. This snow is essentially the battery for the state's water supply. The snow melt run off from here generates electricity and supplies water for a LARGE portion of California. On Saturday night we received almost 3 feet alone! Over the past week we've had over 6 feet of snow. Things have been chaotic in town, but it feels like a winter of years past. I love it! We've had much bigger storms in the past, it's just exciting to finally have something worthy come through. Some pics around the place:

I love snow...except when I need to drive in it, or shovel it, or the fact that my car gets disgusting from all the salt and sand they put on the roads, and...Oh screw it, I hate snow. 6 feet?!? You suck, dude. |

I don't think you can compare somewhere that gets a lot of snow to somewhere like the UK that hardly gets any. If you get it all the time you're going to be geared up for it. Can you imagine the furore if millions of pounds was spent on equipment that was just standing around doing nothing for 99% of the time?

Can you imagine the furore if millions of pounds was spent on equipment that was just standing around doing nothing for 99% of the time? We as tax payers, complain enough already when our taxes are spent on silly things, But spending millions on things that would be used occasionally at best would be crazy. Its still silly that in my part of the country, one of the councils had to import £600K worth of salt because they hadn't had enough to cope with the sudden showering of snow. So I suspect "millions" would only be part of the solution, it would escalate into 10's of millions. |

Id rather they spend it on that 1% chance than some skivvy down the benefits office... Ive done an Arctic survival course so I'll be reet.[yes] |
