Default After a Cheap NAS SATA
I'm after a cheap SATA NAS and as I have no experience with these wanted some advised, I nearly bought one but after doing some searching found out all PC's need the same software to access it and no browser access so I need one thats secure and I can connect to my router and access through a web browser wherever I am.

Any recommendations, the main thing is no super duper £1000 jobbies, cheap as chips I'm looking for.

Cheers

I have that one. IDE not SATA though. Maybe there is a newer model? Comes with a built in FTP server so I can always FTP to it. Does the job. I just add it as a network drive on all the PC's.

I setup one of These for someone last year and liked it alot. You put your own HDD's in it after you buy the unit.

I strongly recommend one of these. I got one and its fantastic -it has more features than a swiss army knife. I particularly love the free twonky media server which is useful for watching movies on the LCD TV via a ps3 (no PC) required.

I collected mine from the office of the reseller based in Bracknell. I stuffed a Samsung spinpoint (1TB) in it which I got on offer from ebuyer. Has more room than I know what to do with it.

What about the NAS interfaces, I already have a 2TB Superbox Mirrored, do the interfaces work, can I just plug my storage device into an interface an it'll act as a NAS, as these are only around £15 - £20

Could you post a link to one of the superboxes please as I'm not familiar with them?

The cheapest NAS you could possibly acquire would be a DIY one based on freeNAS using recycled spare kit you may have lying around.

The links you posted aren't NAS drives they can't be connected directly to a network. They are designed to be plugged into a single machine (which could then share it on the network if you wish).

The first site had their own NAS devices at the bottom:

I know these aren't NAS, the question was are the USB devices that that claim to turn standard caddy's into NAS any good as they are cheap

Not being familiar with the specific USB device that converts to NAS I wouldn't be able to say.

But the words USB and NAS is generally bad anyway as USB's file transfer speeds tend to lag behind those of other connections such as eSata and Sata. The whole point of a NAS is to transfer files.....
