Desperate enough to host it yourself?

What about using dyndns and hosting it off your own computer for a while? Just a thought

You don't need one! [thumbup]

I guess your using a router? Bind your current IP to the domain name you want to use from their website. If you turn your router off ...get the new ip then just go back on their website and change it. You will need to forward port 80 to your pc then download "Analogx SimpleServer" and tell it the main page of your website on your HDD. Done!

It is easy enough but ask if you have problems!

dyndns offer these domains with just your username infornt

One thing you need to watch out for is that most of ISP's user agreement doesn't allow you to host websites on you own computer.

Really? What reason do they have for that?

I run a little LAMP server at home and haven't had any problems yet...

I can understand if you were hosting like CNN.com or something, but a little personal site shouldn't matter. You pay for down and up.

I have a host with 2.5GB of webspace which I haven't been using yet. I am not sure how all this hosting goes, but the URL is www.kalmte5.nl

I wouldn't mind sharing my details with you Golem, just don't know if you can link it to another URL ????

Hi first of all thanks for the tips and offers !!
A very big thank you go´s to deanparkr for hosting the site atm !! [thumbup]

Like said before i have a host, but somethings really wrong with it, i create a folder called www in my ftp, do the whole domain thing, upload everything into it the www folder (which should be the folder for websites etc), eveything shows up in Smartftp and that´s about it, nothing else works. [thumbdown]
I´m asuming that i screwed something up and the standard www ftp thingy isn´t actually the right one (maybe because i deleted it once to often
If anybody has any experience with Host Europe, and actually knows how to work things out, hit me !!
