once again, have fun seeing your zero's and ones faster. Digital picture / sound is there or it isn't, you can't degrade it, you can't make it better with a different cable. thats just the way it is, no way around it, but hey, if you want to make yourself happy and keep monster in business, go ahead.

Ive heard somewhere that in pro installations they use cat 5e/6 network cables with repeater and HDMI converter boxes instead of HDMI cables

iz this true
Typically for very long runs also, companies have started to make active speaker systems with ethernet connectivity, mainly in-wall models.

I was just listening to the AV Forums Home Cinema podcast from June and they were talking about HDMI cables and they reckoned that it's a myth that digital signals are either there or they're not and can't degrade.

Here's a link to download the podcast. They start talking about HDMI cables at about 30:30 and about quality at about 34:50.

The only thing about gold plating is corrosion resistance. It has no positive affects to signal quality as it has a higher resistance then copper.
yeah, my bad. thanks for the clarification. I was using "gold plated" as representative of ridiculous high priced cables with gimmicks.
