Default Math Help please
Iīm having some problems with a i guess easy math thingy,..

28X - 12 = 3 - 2X

could somebody tell me how itīs done, I havenīt done this in a while and I gotta admit this is really pissing me off.

this:

28X - 12 = 3 - 2X
30X - 12 = 3
30X = 15
X = 0,5 (which is wrong i guess)

Is all i keep coming up with.

Ur right, x=0.5

If you plug in the 0.5 for x it comes our right (2 = 2)

Yep, you're right. The process is quite straightforward, in that there's only one 'rule' to remember when transposing equations: do whatever you like to one side (e.g. add stuff, subtract, divide, flip it over, etc) but you have to do it to the other side too.

Taking your example:

28X - 12 = 3 - 2X

What you're after is X = some number, so you need to get rid of the - 2X on the right, and the - 12 on the left. Sort out the Xs first:

28X - 12 = 3 - 2X [b]+ 2X[/]b : the -2X and +2X will cancel but you need to +2X on the left side too

28X - 12 + 2X = 3

30X - 12 = 3 : now do the same to get rid of the - 12

30X - 12 + 12 = 3 + 12

30X = 15

Now that 30X is really 30 times X, so you need to get rid of it by dividing:

30X divided by 30 = 15 divided by 30

30X / 30 = 15 / 30

X = 15 / 30

X = 0.5

Job done.

Thanks Neeyik !

Iīm really having a hard time with this stuff (for some strange reason)

Hereīs a second equation iīm having problems with.

16x + 4 = 2x - 3 (the +2x turns into -2x = 14x)
14x + 4 = -3 (the +4 turns into -4 = -7)
14x = -7 (14 / -7 = 2)

???

btw this isnīt homework or anything, Iīm just thinking about taking on a evening school to achieve a better graduation and picked up a math book (sadly one without any descriptions etc)

It's not 14/-7, it's -7/14, x=-0,5.

In case you didn't know this one yet (considering your first problem), if you've found an answer to x, fill it in in the original equations. If x is correct, the answers to both equations turn out the same. In this case:

16 * -0,5 + 4 = 2 * -0,5 - 3
-8 + 4 = -1 - 3
-4 = -4

28X - 12 = 3 - 2X
28 * 0,5 - 12 = 3 - 2 * 0,5
14 - 12 = 3 - 1
2 = 2

14 - 12 = 3 - 1
2 = 2
Yeah i know,
The thing thatīs troubling me, is that there are 2 Xīs and a negative value.
Like said before, i havenīt done stuff like this in 12 years,
so this is going to need some practice

If you add 2X to 28X, don't you get 30Z?

(28+2) = 30 and then 2 on from X is Z? Follow's logically?

Oh, damn it was great times when math was this fun and easy. Just wait when you have to deal with derivate, integrals and complex numbers..[no]

What?! NO! You can't change the variable!
