Well my dear old Mother has recently retired and wants to get computer literate, going to local classes and seems to be enjoying it.
She needs a cheap isp to get online, as she wont be torrenting just yet she doesn’t need anything that would have usage of more than a few gig a month. Any good offers around? Cheaper the better ![]() |

http://www.plus.net/residential/broa...id=aff_004__g1 - £9.99/month
The download limit is pretty grim but for just surfing the net as a beginner, I don't think you'll find many standalone packages cheaper than that. |

My folks have had sky since old analouge days but because they live near the coast its "outside" sky's free BB area [rolleyes], but they did try to flog us a £17 a month service. They got told to stick it quite quickly as we pay around $50 a month with them already.
Thanks for the plusnet idea, 1gig worries me though, would like to show her some of the cool stuff on the web like iplayer and 4od if possible. May go with orange but the 18 month contract is a bit iffy but 12 quid a month for 6gb allowance 2mb service with free wireless router? She might not want a huge contract though ![]() |

If you're worried about the contract length, then AOL do a pay-per-month system - it's £14.99/month with a £30 one-off fee:
http://www.aolbroadband.co.uk/pages/...L.jsp?urlseq=9 The downside to AOL is their insidious software but since it comes with a router, you can choose to not install it, if you so wish; however, as I found by switching my mother-in-law to it, the all-in-one simplicity of the software does have some benefits. They're also pretty tight with their download limit: go over it and your download rate will be crippled during peak times. Edit: Don't forget that the previous PlusNet package I showed you is also a per-month contract. |

Check this out http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/index.jsp I think even PAYG accounts qualify if they spend enough. Even without an O2 account, the packages are still pretty damn good with no limits or port blocking. |

Well my dear old Mother has recently retired and wants to get computer literate, going to local classes and seems to be enjoying it. https://www.bethere.co.uk/belitehomebroadband.do; £14/month for up to 8/1.3 If she has a mobile phone on an O2 contract, she can get the same service from 02 broadband (same company as Be)... only £7.50 if she's an o2 customer - http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/index.jsp |

She might not want a huge contract though You also get a free wireless router (although you have to send it back if you cancel). And like I said... completely unlimited & unshaped [thumbup] |

The 02 plan suffers from the same problem as sky, its outside their "cheapo" network [thumbdown]
Went with orange as it gave her free evening and weekend calls 6 gig usage and router for £12 (6 for the first 3) a month and no connection fee which was pretty important ![]() Now watch everyone give me their horror stories [rofl] Ive had some insanely bad experiences with virgin and o2 (mobile contract) hope orange arent a problem... Thanks for peoples feedback anyway [yes] |
