Default So I Went Into Best Buy to Get a Phone Charger.....
...and I walked out with a new 24" iMac

Now, seeing as how this is a very PC centric forum, I expect no less than being crucified for buying another Apple product, but I decided it goes well with my new 3G iphone. Being a PC guy for my entire life, it's certainly something I need to get used to, but so far I'm liking it. Any tips some of you Mac people would like to share?

Congrats, they are great machines!

Install iStat menus to monitor network, temp, memory, cpu usage, etc. It is a great little app and I have it on all of my machines.

Also for streaming to your 360, Connect360 is phenomenal, it does cost $20 but it is worth every penny. MediaLink is their application for streaming to the PS3 and I actually prefer it since it loads all your album artwork and you don't get the AC3 transcoding that the 360 does when playing back music.

Since you have an iPhone I highly recommend signing up for MobileMe to really take advantage of push. It is fantastic for syncing your phone and your computer from everywhere. On the road and add a contact to your phone? It will push the updated information straight to every machine you have set up with you Me account. For me it is great because I have multiple Macs and it keeps them all synced. You also get 20GB of storage with sub accounts as well. The online interface that you can login to from any machine is superb.

That should keep you busy for some time but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Awesome Mute, thanks for the input [yes]

As of now, my eyes are bleeding from how huge the monitor is (I'm from the old school 19" CRT crowd), but lets just say I now know what all the Mac fuss was about. This thing kicks ass! [thumbup]

Yes.. make sure to get matching socks. Its very important when matching.

For women its usually a purse, but with men its always the socks.

A bit impulsive? Certainly, but I've been in the market for a new Desktop for a while now, but I simply couldn't get myself to build a gaming rig, if only for the reason that it will take me away from more important duties. I currently own and run two businesses and am on the verge of launching my 3rd, so unfortunately I do not have the time to game as much as I used to. Buying a kickass gaming rig would suck all of my time away

As you find more creature comforts in the machine and OS you will like it even more. After some time you will completely forget about Windows. Even if you don't just install Windows under Boot Camp.

Is Boot Camp better than parallels? I might simply install XP if only for a few programs that might not be compatible with OSX. Although, I do have a Vista Laptop so it might not be necessary.

By the way, when does Snow Leopard come out?

Edit: By the way, Widgets blow away Gadgets on Vista.

Welcome to the dark side!

Only tip I can think of off hand is cmd+q for closing programs, other wise when you hit the close button they stay running in the dock in the background. I found that very odd coming from a PC background.

As far as boot camp goes I like it better then parallels, but that could be cause my macbook has a hard time running both OS'es at the same time.

I've always found Parallels to be WAY WAY WAY too slow, it's like you are using a P133. OK a little bit exaggerated but when you are use to things being so quick it's painful. Boot Camp is just inconvenient.

My advice for those programs that are incompatible is find alternatives that will run on OSX.

Congrats on your buy, they are great machines.

he meant extremely impulsive. salesman sees him come in, basically going to sell him a few dollars worth of phone hardware, and ends up selling him a few thousand of apple stock. and prolly the phoen charger as well
