Can't help but compare them to Nightwish...

Tuomas Holopainen is simply a genious... That was proved with the latest Nighwish album which is propably their best even with the swedish pop singer!

It's not about the singer it's about the people making the songs...

I agree, which is also why I don't like Nightwish... Don't like the vocals or the songs. All the songs and lyrics seem cheesy to me (in the same way bands like Dream Theater do). I'm not sure why you would say, "Can't help but compare them to Nightwish... " They're really quite different. After Mandylion, The Gathering started turning into much more of a progressive rock group, rather than the "Gothic" label that's often thrown on them, undeservedly. Hence why if you're looking for Gothic rock you probably wouldn't like The Gathering's songs after Mandylion.
