Default Now honestly this is just ****ed up !
Esmin Green, 49, had been waiting in the emergency room for nearly 24 hours when she toppled from her seat at 5:32 a.m. on June 19, falling face down on the floor.

She was dead by 6:35, when someone on the medical staff, flagged down by a person in the waiting room, finally approached, nudged Green with her foot, and gently prodded her shoulder, as if to wake her. The staffer then left and returned with someone wearing a white lab coat who examined her and summoned help.

Until the staffer's appearance, Green's collapse barely caused a ripple. Other patients waiting a few feet away didn't react. Security guards and a member of the hospital's staff appeared to notice her prone body at least three times, but made no visible attempt to see if she needed help.

Stuff like this really pisses me off,
I hope everyone that was in there has to serve some quality jail time.
Cold hearted bastards !!

I don't understand how anyone can not respond to someone that collapses next to them, let alone in a hospital! Add to that that some of the people who didn't respond were hospital workers and it's even more unbelievable! [thumbdown] I guess this is the way our "touch me and I sue" world is going.

That seriously is f*cked up. Last year a pregnant women was in labour and about to give birth at a Sydney hospital. When the doctors refused to help her she ended up going into the toilets in deep pain and giving birth herself, something went wrong and her baby died. They found her in the toilets with the baby in her hand dead and she was crying. Nobody bothered to help during any of it.

I mean wtf, its a fricken hospital.

Is it possible for anyone to be charged with her death by refusing to help (hospital staff mostly)? I'm no expert on the law, but there must be something like this no?

No they can't get charged (at least not here in Australia) as they haven't done anything wrong by the law. But damn if I was a news reporter or something I would be downplaying them all. They should all go down as cowards and unhelpful sonsofb*tchs. And the doctors, nurses and staff should all get sacked as its there job to HELP people not stand there and igore a dying/dead person.

WE do have them, but they are made to protect in case something goes wrong, not force to help in the first place:

This is not the first case of this happening. This is how people are today.

I've read about a guy getting beat up and left to die on a sidewalk and hundreds of people just walked by before someone decided to help.

Also, there was a couple of ricers street racing and one of them hit an older man. They left the older guy laying on the ground and other cars just kept driving by and people were walking by, nobody stopping to help. It was hours later before someone stopped to help him.

This kind of crap happens all the time. People think, aww "it's a bum"... or "ohh, they're a mental case and like sleeping on the floor"... or, "ohh, someone else will help"... or "i'm sure somebody already called 911"... etc.

I can see other patients getting off OK, and I guess that is acceptable, but hospital staff? It is their (sworn) duty to help people and they showed complete disregard for her life until it was too late. [cursing]

Its was likely packed. I once had to wait over 4 hours to get a urine test done. My dad couldn't be f*cked waiting so we went home. Saw the doctor(GP) the next day and got in within a few minutes and he said I had a temporary virus.

Hospitals can be quite saddening sometimes.

I waited 8 hours with a broken wrist in the ER, and 6 hours with a head injury. [thumbdown] It has gotten better here since they built the new facility, but wait times are still on the long side.

This sort thing eats me alive inside. It no longer surprises me that people will simply ignore someone if they are in need, or simply not lend a hand when the situation calls for it. It's almost as if humanity is on a drastic decline. [no]

Don't worry guys. This won't happen to you because you're not mentally ill. You see, this is rather common for mentally ill patients. Things are actually much better now than they were 30 years ago. Also, New England is pretty pathetic when it comes to individual's rights for mentally ill people.

Did any of you catch the news report about the school that put shock devices on students with developmental disabilities so when they are "misbehaving" they can be shocked into submission? A former student made a prank call to a teacher acting as the principal and told the teacher to shock a student. The teacher complied without question.

Also, there was a couple of ricers street racing and one of them hit an older man. They left the older guy laying on the ground and other cars just kept driving by and people were walking by, nobody stopping to help. It was hours later before someone stopped to help him. I assume you're talking about the incident that occurred recently. The pedestrians immediately called 911 but did not move the man for fear of a spinal injury. The "news" agencies were less than professional when they reported that a few weeks back.

Man if I saw someone on the road lying down and people driving past doing nothing I would stop in the middle of the road preventing anyone to pass through until the man/women got help. If people are going to be slack enough not to help an injured person than they deserve to suffer in one way or another.
