Default Crest WhiteStrips
Has anyone used these? Do they work? Is it worth the $30.00 a box?

For those that don't know, they're supposed to whiten your teeth. I have very good oral hygiene, but my teeth are not as white as I'd like them to be.

What are you're results from these White Strips?

Of course they work.

If your teeth are simply "not as white as you'd like them to be," then you may not really see much in the way of results because you can't whiten teeth that are already white. You'll need to document the change to notice it. If your teeth are stained/yellow, then you will see the difference easily. The more stained your teeth are, the more obvious and substantial the change will be.

All of the products in this class, regardless of brand, are fundamentally the same and work using the same active ingredient, namely hydrogen peroxide. The only difference between any of them is the concentration of peroxide. They may cause sensitivity in the teeth and/or irritation/stinging in the gums. It doesn't matter what brand you use or what advanced technology they claim to have in the product. It's all just varying concentrations of hydrogen peroxide so check the label.

So that's why they all say they use the same ingredient as the dentist.

But, I could have sworn I saw a teeth whitening process at the dentist that used UV light. Maybe I didn't know what I was seeing and I've never actually asked the dentist.

What about that? Is there a teeth whitening process used at the dentist that uses ultraviolet light?

... maybe I should just google it.

I know that various dentist "cements" are dried using a special UV light.

Teeth aren't supposed to be brilliant white. In fact if they are it indicates you're unhealthy.

I wouldn't use any teeth whitening product. Who knows what kind of damage they're doing to your teeth in order to make them a "perfect white".

I wouldn't use them for any length of time. But it probably won't hurt to use them long enough to get them a few shades lighter. Of course, you could just go see the dentist.

If you smoke/drink lots of tea or wine then toothpastes like Pearl Drops Replenishing White etc will remove the stains but as for them actually making your teeth whiter? they don't work..simple as that! been there done that and basically got told by the dentist yesterday that if i want my teeth to be a couple of shades lighter then the treatment starts from £350! then i might have to add another £300 because the Crown i have might end up being duller than my newly whitened teeth stuff that i'll just stick with what ive got me thinks.

Like Bungle said "Teeth aren't supposed to be brilliant white. In fact if they are it indicates you're unhealthy." thats very true, i mean if anyone outside the UK was to see our Toothpaste adverts its a joke...why the hell do they pick people with perfect straight teeth that have obviously had a couple of grands worth of whitening etc done to them? Thats not what the big % of the population have & using the product advertised will not get you a set of teeth as seen in the bloody advert!

False advertising or what!

Anyway on a lighter note it always reminds me of the Friends episode when Ross had his teeth done and the scene with the Black light @ the end [rofl]

The UV whitening process at the dentist's office also uses peroxide. The UV light causes the peroxide to break down and release highly reactive oxygen radicals. A chemist or dentist would be better equipped to tell you. What it does, though, is simply speed up the process.

Are these 'Crest White Strips' a particular brand? If so/not what should I look out for here in Japan? The toothpaste here is really crap and doesn't contain any flouride so I'm quite worried about my teeth and they're not white in the slightest.
Any advice would be appreciated on the same matter!

Wouldn't be the 1st time i'd seen someone try it

Pearl Drops do something very similar to tippex...

Instant White (Brush on tooth veneer) be warned a friend of mine used this, followed the instructions but his gums went abit put me right off [no] granted not everyone will experience side affects but is it worth taking the risk?

IIRC from my chem days, fluoride does not help with whitening. There are tiny gaps in the calcium structures of the teeth that allow sugar and other nastiness in which rot the teeth. Fluoride, having a very small atomic radius, fits perfect into these gaps and prevents other things from getting in. Either way, still good to have in toothpaste! [surrender]

Yeah I agree it should have at least a little bit of flouride in the toothpaste here, after brushing my teeth, within a few minutes it feels like I didn't just brush my teeth

I just went to my local drug store here in Japan but couldn't find any of this Cresta stuff, I'm guessing it's just in the states?

Crest is a popular brand name for dental hygiene products here in North America. I thought they were world wide, but I guess not. According to wiki, it's toothpaste line is marketed as "Blend-A-Med" in other countries.

Crest is owned by Proctor & Gamble, so there may be a Japanese derivative from the company. They probably don't call the whitening product WhiteStrips though.

We have Crest toothpaste here in the UK (I'm surprised Ginjarou hasn't heard of it), but I don't know about any of the other products or if they sell in Japan.
