Default Car Audio Sound Distortion.
Hey all i have a question. I noticed that my car has been having some bad sound distortions that are very noticeable. For instance if i turn up the sound even a quarter way no matter sound options i put it on my speakers start to "crack up" and they sound bad. Now one may think that my speakers simply cant handle sound at that volume and thats understandable.

But even at a low volume my speakers sometimes "fade out" like the sound goes all the way down and it sounds distorted then maybe 30 seconds later its back to normal as if someone turned down the sound then turned it back up.

I have recently bought new speakers to see if this would solve this problem and it did for a while. But recently this problem has come right back with brand new speakers so i have no clue what it is. I thought it might of been my deck but my cd deck is only from 2001 so its not even that old. That only leads me to beileve that maybe my connections are bad to my speakers.

I installed my new speakers myself but i can't say that i didnt install them right and thats the reason why i get the distortion because this was happening on my old speakers as well. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a bad transistor in the amplifier. Speakers aren't the problem as they don't do that.

To use speakers, you have to have an amplifier [yes] I would suggest you either ask a buddy who knows about this stuff see if he or she thinks the amp is bad too... if so, try another or simply buy a new one.

Also check the power cables and earths - if you've a loose/corroded join, it may give a similar symptom

I'd say you've damaged your headunit.

What's the manufacturer? There were some pioneer premiers that had some odd issues. My wife has one, and she'll get some occasional fading and distortion. Drives me nuts when all the sudden the music gets quiet, then the bass is overpowering and distorted, then it goes back to normal.

Its possible to damage it if you've cranked it up too loud. I'm assuming you don't have an external amp and its all powered by the deck. The crackling could possibly be a wiring issue, but with the fading you've described I'm pretty sure its a problem with the deck.

Sounds like your onboard amp is shot. If you want to keep your head unit, if its just the amp, you could get an external amp and get better sound all around. What headunit and speakers do you have, btw?

I went to best buy and i let them reinstall my speakers, they said that the speakers wernt installed correctly so that was my mistake. But even after they reinstalled it i still get the distortion but not as often as before. They told me the distortion is probably caused by the cd deck which i will have to replace (but that will have to wait as ive just bought a Q6600)
