I joined the forums of what was then Madonion. I was 16 years old and only a year earlier had gotten my first computer. It was a cyrix m2-300 with 32 megs of ram, a 4.3 gig hard drive, and a 15" CRT monitor, It cost my parents 1000$ and it was the cheapest computer I could find. It would seem that I am the oldest remaining active poster besides the staff. I never though 8 years ago that I would still be here. Things certainly have changed in that time, some good some bad. I still browse the board almost everyday but I don't post nearly as much as I did back in the hayday.

I will be making a very similar post in exactly 1 month as that will be my 8-year. My timeline is oddly similar to yours as I was 16 when I joined and it was right after I bought my first PC.

I don't have any "sock" pics or anything to share though.

Almost brought a tear to my eye. It's pretty amazing how attached one can get to a simple Internet forum. I'm coming up on 7 years myself, but had lurked around at least a year before I actually joined up. I was about the same age too.

Yeah, me too. Those forums looked the best by far. And they were faster, looked cleaner and noble. Now they're just run of the mill.

I like the 2000-2003 site. Nice and straight to the point. An easy access ORB and Product Comparison as well, not to mention how easy it is to read Orange and Purple colored website text.

Dude, please tell me you retired those socks by now! [rofl] Good to see that senior Onioneers are still around. This is a great site and the only forum ive frequented on a day to day basis like this.
