Default If You Sold Someone You Know A Second Hand Pc.....
and 6 months later it stopped working would you feel you have to replace anything if it no longer works ? Bear in mind I sold it dirt cheap (£100).

Thanks

Certainly not!

Maybe swap the parts out if they buy the new parts - but don't spend anything yourself!

This is the exact reason I don't do any sort of PC work for family or friends.

I suppose if you're in the business of doing this regularly (fixing/selling PCs) you should clarify those things at the time of purchase.

To answer your question; 6 months no, unless it's a cheap part you have other spares of.

You are certainly not obliged to, and you shouldn't feel that you are. But if it makes you feel better for it, and you have a spare lying around, then by all means replace it for free.

Personally I wouldn't pay for a new part as replacement, but would give them anything I had spare for free.

When I sell a PC to anyone I always tell them that electronics are risky. I make sure they know that a used part or PC could last for 10 years or it could last for 10 days. You never know. I always make sure to tell them that there is no warranty. I always try to first convince people to buy a new machine or new parts just so they have the security of a warranty if anything should fail. I've never had anyone come back later and want me to replace something for free.

When family or friends ask about PCs I usually push them towards buying a Dell.

I really don't like doing PC work for family and friends for this specific reason.

6months no way! 6 weeks maybe.

6months is along time long enough to know you sold it without knowing of any possible failure.

you sold it for £100 anyway surely he got his moneys worth

you sold it cheap...

In 6 months anything can happen, hell I know brand new pc's that have died in that much of time it goes with the territory of pc's anything can go wrong. who cares if it is a friend, if they expect you to refund them and/or fix it at your cost you need to smack them upside the head, for that price they should feel so lucky it lasted that long.

I only sell stuff like that to my parents, they can afford to replace something if it goes wrong, and they dont blame me and act as if its my fault it failed.

Only thing thats ever gone wrong was a bad harddrive and an old voodoo3 that died... which really sucked because my dad got a gf2mx to replace it and the PC shop kept the voodoo3 >.<

The pain of living 80 miles away, that was my card too darnit I payed for it lol.
