Or damnation. XD
But yeah, apparently the Rat deck can't win against the Tournament decks, idk.
I have been doing a lot of math on this deck not that I know they reprinted the rats, it's likely not worth developing because the Thrumming stones will rotate out of standard in a while and there are not really any big type 2 events I can think of before then, however going blue black with signet based acceleration, and an alternate win condition I could actually see this deck being tourny ready.

I think I would have to go something like this.

18x Relentless Rats.
4x Korlash, Heir to Blackblade.
1x Nightmare

4x Dimir Signet
3x Mind stone
4x Thrumming stones
3x Diabolic Tutor
3x Remand

Lands
4x Watery Grave
4x Underground River
12x Swamp

Side Board
4x Mana Leak
4x Damnation
3x Brainspoil
4x Distress

Obviously that is a quick half baked deck list, there are a lot of other cards that might work better in it, but that list should pretty consistently
Manage a turn 6 kill.

Another idea I've heard people talking about is putting relentless rats + extirpate in your own deck, then exirpating your own rats to purposely thin your own deck down to some essential combo pieces.

... The problem is, what essential combo pieces?

How rude of me to not even post the deck's I've created over the past

I don't play much in paper due to lack of time mostly.

My white en-kor deck with some new cards i had gotten.

http://essentialmagic.com/decks/View.asp?ID=312318

Pretty fun, I bought 99% of the deck off ebay a long time ago in tact for like 30 bucks. It used to be a type 2 deck when stronghold was around or so.

My black deck... its mean. :P Multiplayer mostly.

Sac this sac that repeat gravepact yada yada.

My ultimate multiplayer deck that makes everyone bonkers when I play it.

It's just not a good idea, you have to waste turns to set it up, no including puzzle pieces for an alt win that come together pretty easy if your rats do get Extirpated is not a bad idea. Thats why I have Korlash and Nightmare in there, If I were to go for a combo I would say go red black for either Dragonstorm or Ignite Memory's. Though I think having blue for the backup is just as good.

I guess I started play Magic when the Dark was released and played it until sometime after Visions and Mirage were released. I still have thousands of cards and all the complete sets from that era but I have not played in many years. I did play at a few tournaments at local universities but my best finsih was 8th out of 453 players. Most the time I would make the top 64 or so. Aw the good ole days.

Are you crazy? Time spiral block is amazingly balanced between control, aggro, and combo.

Granted, Dragonstorm is a bitch, but one persecute, connect with a barbed shocker, or my favorite with white/black control decks, use martyr of sands to gain an absolutely absurd amount of life by turn 2, then drop circle of protection: red. [thumbup]

Greater Gargadon + mana accel + cheese stands alone = (poor) win

Can even throw in a Rebuff the Wicked to protect your cheese while it sits there waiting for your upkeep. (Or a Mana Tithe- why not?)

+ Restore Balance.

I helped a friend of mine build a deck with Restore Balance and Greater Gargadon... when timed right, that is an absolute game ender.

back in ursa saga I had a pure black 40piece deck that made opponents QQ, Corrupt+Pestilence combo.

now I just collect old cards that I liked the drawings.
still have a killer weenie black deck though. good luck defending yourself from a 20/2 black creater on 2nd turn on a good turn.

I dont think ill play the latest editions as to me they added too many stuffs.
back in early 90s a game would take 2-10min, but now it seems that it takes 15-30min.

I didn't say it couldn't be beat, Simply that I don't like the current format, I don't think it's balanced at all it really harbors combo decks, and it plays terribly in Sealed and Draft IMHO, I used to play MTG tournys 3~4 times a week before Time Spiral came into the picture, now I play a tourny once every 2~4 months. On the bright side I am no longer spending $150~$250 a month on cards.

For that matter I have seen Dragonstorm go off for a turn 1~2 kill more times than I care to think about. And I have seen some of the other Combo gave yard decks hit turn 2 Akroma with Dredge. I guess I just like playing games that last a little while and have a lot to do with skill and planing and anticipating what your foe is going to do, and have less to do with lucksacking a "perfect" hand.

That’s why I play multiplayer games only for the most part. With 3 to 6 players there’s no winning by turn 2 or 4 and you get slower more tactical games.

Luckily my group thinks Time spiral is unbalanced so for the most part it’s got a ban here. A handful of cards are permitted for theme decks IE centaurs e.c.t

About the only magic I am playing right now is casual multiplayer, it's free *YAY* and still fun, though I think I am annoying the other players because I manage to win about 80% of them. I keep hearing things like "Pernicious Deed is unfair when all your creatures regenerate." Or "I hate you and your stupid Serra Avatar, Clone, Angelic Chorus, Processor deck." It's ok though cause I am a big boy and can handle wining with class! heheheh.

Discuss M:TG!
Wow, I'm late to this thread, but it takes me back. I've not played Magic in 11 years. Got started in 1994 during Revised.

There is nothing wrong with that. Just goes to show that people have come up with better decks. Granted it does suck playing a 30min game, but it's fun in the end if you win. To know that you outlasted a deck that you know is really good like that is pretty nice to know.

yeah true, i had my fun with long games too.
I tried any possible type of decks pre7th ed, 1.5.1.0, 2.0 type, control deck, unlimited turn, infinite creatures, infinite life and had a blast. but for competition wise I preffer a quick game.

Isn't Corrupt too expensive in a 40 card deck? It's 6 mana to cast and you need 3 Black on top of that.

I still love my 40 card Skirge deck, first round 3/1 flier will make the opponent groan everytime!

not at all considering 45-55% of your deck will be swamps.
basically the strat is to have pestilence clear up the table whenever theres a creature. corrupt is your main dmg + life gain. (you have duress/ostracize to check your opponents hand to take off heavy creatures or powerful spells)
I rarely lost whenever I use it, stopped using it though as its way too cheap [rofl]
