Even still its a pretty gay choice of movies
How could it possibly be any gayer than Top Gun?

That kind of makes it sound a lot worse than it was though. He wasn't down the local multiplex watching Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves when he decided to have a sly ****. He was caught in an Adult Theater doing what men do in Adult Theaters.

What about this list strikes you as "gay"? I'd rather my list be perceived as "gay" than repeat the same old tripe we've seen for the nth time. Everyone loves Raiders and Ferris Bueller, but they're rather ubiquitous and don't really convey individual taste that well. And, as you pointed out, he did ask for good movies. Perhaps you should try wandering off the beaten path occasionally. I listed a diverse range of films, some of which I'm sure you'd enjoy if you gave them a chance.
Would you be surprised if I told you I'd already seen most of them?

...and they were all gay. Only joking there's nothing really wrong with the list you gave but hell sometimes you just have to have puerile. Although it goes beyond this, Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, Goonies, Repo Man, Star Trek 4, etc. are "80's" movies, they are products of 80's culture and they reflect 80's culture which is a criteria none of the movies you listed really met... And frankly it looked poncey.

More so than The Goonies, Breakfast Club, and The Princess Bride? I think not. Let's face it, 80s pop-culture was pretty terrible so lacking any reflection of this culture in a film is not a meaningful deficiency.

It is a very meaningful deficiency in this thread. You mentioned OP asking for good 80's films but then over look the very movies he's speaking of, Wedlock and Fortress! Which means he's hardly looking for cultural masterpieces. My original reply was meant as a joke but your replies, one where you suggested I try wandering off the beaten path once in a while and this one imply that your list and comments have nothing to do with a gay choice but a general snobbish attitude.

This didn't just come to you did it? I mean, this is something you did realise after post number three from him right? If not, look back through his posts... sparafucil lets us readers know how much more cultured he is than us as often as acarney lets us know how much he spent on something.

I wasn't aware in order to post in this thread one had to share the OP's taste in films. Would you have upbraided someone for suggesting The Breakfast Club if you truly believed this? I posted what I considered to be the best films of the 80s. I'm not going to make any assumptions about the OP's intelligence, he might be perfectly capable of appreciating the films I listed. And they're not especially difficult films. I'm actually surprised no one listed Amadeus, Das Boot, or Do The Right Thing before--these are quintessential 80s flicks. In fact, claiming that any of the films I mentioned do not represent the 1980s isn't correct, they are all the product of 80s culture, just a different level and locus of culture. Your implication that these films were dull led me to conclude you were not sufficiently acquainted with them, hence my suggestion you broaden your awareness of cinema, advice I wish people would take to heart. Anyway, notwithstanding your narrow definition of 80s culture, you already seem to be ahead of most moviegoers. Your list isn't entirely bad, although it indulges a bit too heavily in the puerile.
