Because its cool. The UTE seems to do well in Australia. Its a Niche vehicle that isn't going to cost them much to bring over to the US. We had the El Camino for a long time.

Steering isn't needed in the US. Interstate highways are nice and long and straight.

Back in the late 80s I drove a 1980 Camino and actually thought it was cool.
Then again, back then I also thought my cowboy boots, jeans jacket with a leather collar and my mullet hairdo were cool
