Default December 2012...
How many of you believe that the world will end in December 2012? (Or if the world doesn't end, a VERY violent catastrophe will occur on Earth).

I think anyone who puts stock into predictions of the end of the world are fools. Everyone of the predictions so far have been wrong due to the fact we'er still here, so why should any new predictions be any different.
I think the end of the world will come in the form of us (humans) totally destroying the surface of the earth through war, or when our sun goes supernova.

It's completely irrational to believe that. Of course I don't.

If something bad happens then it's not related to any prediction, and any connection is purely coincidental.

unless someone (in this example) has / had a higher knowledge than we currently do OR that they indeed know something we dont.

what if the human race was wiped out before? they had just as much knowledge as us, yet when that day came no one believed X because it was a prediction, yet they were right?

we would never have none this because we were wiped out.

just a thought.

The guy writing it probably got tired, said "someone else can pick this up in a few years" and a few years later the Mayans were nowhere to be seen.

Our sun isnt nearly as massive enough to cause a supernova, our solar system will have a very uneventful death

There are so many theories about the end coming and vice versa, but the only thing I ever think about when I read upon any of these ridiculous theories is 'rubbish'.

Why? I believe in how the world and the universe revolves around the laws of physics - not ridiculous theories that go beyond that. I do agree with what Hazard says though. [yes]

I was under the assumption that the Mayans didn't even actually believe the world was going to end, just that the current generation would end and usher in a new one.

I'm probably way off. Read that somewhere a while back but I have no idea if there's any truth to it.
