Default Problem with LCD Home Cinema Projector
I've had my LCD projector for a few years now, but just recently I've noticed the picture has become very dark. What could be causing this? Could it be the bulb needs replacing? The thing is according to the manual the bulb's supposed to last about 2000 hours, yet according to the timer in the projector I've only had about 290 hours use out of it.

Are you sure it's the bulb and not the brightness or contrast-setting that has been messed with?

Sometimes bulbs dim or fail prematurely, unfortunately. It's normal for the bulb to dim noticeably during the first hundrer hours or so, but it should still be bright enough.

No, I'm having to turn the brightness and contrast right up just to compensate, and even then it's sill too dark....and this is in a completely dark room at night.

The projector's got two power settings for the bulb: low and high, and I'm having to keep it on high but it's still not bright enough.

probably the bulb...that that is a pretty short life for a bulb, do yo never use it? seems odd you have so few hours, maybe the timer was reset.

I don't use it very often, maybe a couple of times a month. I don't see how the timer could have been reset as to do that you have to go in the menu where the timer is and hold down one of the remote's keys. Anyway I'm pretty sure I haven't had any where near 2000 hours out of it.

It sounds like the bulb to me as well. I have seen this before in LCD/DLP rear projection sets.
