Default can i travel with a criminal record?
so i was chatting today and the topic of spring break came up, aparently this girl i've been seing really wants to travel to florida in late february for some sunny beaches/warm weather and invited me to go with her all expenses paid (jackpot). However i recently required a few little criminal charges this year and am sure i have a bit of a record by now, i'm wondering if and how i can travel to the USA from canada with a criminal record

I havn't had to undergoe any probation/house arrest or travel restrictions in by canadian law so it's just up to the US accepting me. I read something about getting a travel waiver to be accepted into the US but the document was dated 2000 so the rules may have changed since then, anybody shed some slight on this so i can cash in and go for a sweet trip?

Yeah you should have no problem getting in on a Visa Waiver there is no Criminal Record check for that but then you don't even need a Visa Waiver if you are Canadian.

Yeah, just need a gov't picture ID and a birth certificate to cross if by car. Passport if by air. If you don't already have a Passport, good luck getting one for February.

It really shouldn't be a problem. About the only time you might have an issue in the US is if you have a pending trial (for a serious offense, not a single traffic violation like a speeding ticket or other minor tickets), or you are on house arrest or probation.

However that is based on being in the US and travelling elsewhere. Not sure of Canadian law on the subject.

You said flying right? GET that passport!

I can't help but to think of the movie, 'Liar Liar' on this one though...

Jim Carey is a Lawyer:

Secretary picks up the phone "so and so got cought robbing an ATM and he needs your legal advice"

Jim Carey---"STOP BREAKING THE LAW *******!!!"

Sorry man I had to...good luck!

I wouldn't hold you breath on that man. The wait is insane with all people getting them to travel to the US now. You will be very lucky if you can get it in 30 days.

if you guys have the option to apply for passport online go that way, then you'll only have to sign at the office and pay the fees.
it took me 3 weeks to get my passport and this was last year.
