I think HD-DVD will prevail as data storage...

Just look at the amount of laptops that are coming with HD-DVD drives, the market is already too big to ignore imo....
Bluray has also been shipping in laptops, actually I saw BD shiping in laptops first, HD-DVD started coming out in more laptops about the same time I heard a rumor that Microsoft was doing some funny business so that if your laptop came with HD-DVD it was $100 cheaper on the price for your copy of the OS, than if it was coming with BD. Who knows if that is true, However the laptop I have been looking at has a 2x BD burner as an option, and no HD-DVD option I would bet the end of the war quickly kills HD-DVD here as well, I mean as a storage medium BD was always far superior to HD-DVD, getting an affordable BD burner in my laptop was the biggest reason I wanted BD to win.

Maybe Toshiba will come up with some clever ways to recycle their tech, Like Sony did with Betamax.

Sony, HP, Dell and Apple are all going to ship BD drives though, so that's not going to swing it either way.

The best thing for the industry would be for Toshiba to get back into line and play nicely, and for MS and Intel to butt out. MS really have no vested interest in this, their only hope was to hurt Sony and prevent the PS3 from being an attractive BD player - but it's happened anyway (any moron should have seen this coming).
That plus they wanted to have their system for interactivity win out over a Java based one.
