Just got back from seeing the first showing at the IMAX. I thought it was fantastic. First off, its more of a drama then an action movie but there is action in it. Second there is no swearing and almost no gore at all but I didn't even realise it till I left the theatre and thought about it. If anyone says that will Smith can't act I will tell them to see this movie, his performance is outstanding [thumbup]. Plus there are some very sad scenes and some suspensfull ones. I love post apocalypitc movies and zombie/monster movies so maybe I'm biased

I definatly recommend seeing it. I should warn you though, Judging from the critics it's the kind of movie that you will think either suck ass or is awsome

Looking forward to seeing it at the IMAX too - looks like a really amazing holiday romp. The visuals look incredible.

I read in Wired how they recreated New York in CGI, and I also saw many of the shoots here in NYC over the last 2 years.

How similar is it to Omega Man? I know it's the same character and all, but is it a parallel?

its based on the book, the omega man was a sort of slight spin off thing with a different name and some other details different.

I was amazed at the city he ws in it looked damn real, but I figured it was CGI because there is no way they could have created it by hand

yeah, just from the previews I've seen it's been hugely impressive how they created such a convincing looking abandoned NYC. It seems like phenomenal special effects.

I'm definately looking foward to I am Legend. I think overall Will Smith is a pretty solid actor. He's not Edward Norton or Robert DeNiro or anything, but he has a very good charisma, and on screen presence. He is convincing in every movie i've seen.

There are some really cool I am Legend shorts on xbox marketplace (i'd imagine they're online as well) they are graphic novel type presentations, but the artwork and story is really cool. Anyways, if you're into this movie, check them out. They're buried somewhere on marketplace.... i think it's in the shorts section of Movie Marketplace. They are in HD and have a really cool art style.

good call. Friday and Saturday nights are not good times to view movies unless you have a high tolerance for morons who need attention and do so by ruining other's movie going experience.

Also, with every idiot in the theater eating popcorn.....Last time i went to a movie on a weekend I swear it sounded like i was in a barn with about 100 horses feeding on oats and hay. Seriously, if i get near someone eating popcorn it makes me cringe. I'm not a big fan of listening to someone else eat.

I won't even get my date popcorn, but chocolate is ok.

According to an interview with Jonathan Ross last night, most of the NYC filming is not CGI... something to think about

Akiva Goldsman decided to move the story from Los Angeles to New York City to take advantage of locations that would more easily show emptiness.[3] Goldsman explained, "L.A. looks empty at three o'clock in the afternoon, [but] New York is never empty... it was a much more interesting way of showing the windswept emptiness of the world."[20] Warner Brothers initially rejected this idea because of the logistics,[14] but Francis Lawrence was determined to shoot on location, to give the film a natural feel that would not benefit from shooting on soundstages. Lawrence went to the city with a camcorder, and filmed areas filled with crowds. Then, a special effects test was conducted to remove all those people. The test had a powerful effect on studio executives.[18] Michael Tadross convinced authorities to close busy areas such as the Grand Central Terminal viaduct, several blocks of Fifth Avenue and Washington Square Park.[14]

And i can not stand idiots that yell out in the middle of a movie because they think they are funny. I also can not stand idiots that know each other talk to each other through the entire movie ... loudly.... god damn idiots... That is why I have setup a nice home theatre system downstairs...

Will Smith did a interview in the UK, and he said they closed off sections of New York on a Monday morning to film scenes. The locals were not impressed however...

WTF? Thats alot, not Worlds strongest man alot, but still thats a fairly large number.

BTW, the film is definitely worth it on Imax, I wasn't dissapointed. Was worth the $13.

It was a typical Will Smith movie, don't look for me.

Personally, I found the acting and directing didn't make up for the poor script.
